I used to like computers a lot. Like, a lot a lot!
Then I moved to SF and got a first-hand look at how capital distorts benefit production and distribution towards authoritarianism.
And so much of computers is tied up in the capital cycle and authoritarianism.
It's just deeply deeply disappointing, and makes it hard to find what joy I used to have at computation and the digital world.

Soooo... PayPal is banning Asahi Linux users. Hey, can you maybe not do that please?
https://gist.github.com/asahilina/31dd6bf3cde26a51e0fc1414e1abe730
Yes, they ban Linux users with a GPU name containing the string "Apple M1". Anything else works.
Edit: To be clear they're banning the platform from access, not individual accounts. This won't get your account banned.
Edit 2: Alternate workaround: Spoof a Mac OS / Safari user agent. As you'd expect, "Apple M1" is allowed then.
🚨 Attention EU Citizens 🚨
💬 Chat Control could mandate all services to scan all private digital communications of everyone residing in the European Union, and it's currently waiting to be green-lit by the EU Parliament tomorrow.
According to Dr. Patrick Breyer a digital rights expert and former Member of the European Parliament: "Chat Control is being pushed through the back door, in a form even more intrusive than the originally rejected plan."

Considering that you framed my words describing a totalitarian state building tools to advance its interests as "xenophobic conspiracy theory", it's time to end our conversation. Goodbye.

> rather telling them its harmful and to stop deliberately using utilities designed to harm to people and the world around them just because they dont know how to code.
So let's say I coded (not vibecoded, but used AI to generate the boring parts which I fully understand) part of the project. And did it without providing training data to any of the evil platform owners. It sped up development process. Where's the harm in that?
@Li @ridou @dzwiedziu @keepassxc @anselmschueler @bagder @undead
Part about Chinese government is definitely true. They will use it for harm. And they don't care an inch about our opinion, and will develop regardless. While building hydroelectric dams and training models relentlessly. For now they are giving away their models for free (there's a risk of a planted backdoors, but I use them for hobbyist projects).
It puts things to perspective. Even if we stop using AI, they won't even pause.

As for the shitty English-to-C++ transpiler, if it really was that bad, it wouldn't be making headlines every week.
But believe what you want. I am not trying to convince you to use AI, I am trying to convince you (and others reading this thread) to stop harassing people who use it.
