Pong is 50 years old today.
Little known fact: Pong has no code. Pong doesn't even have a microprocessor. Al Alcorn hardwired the game with transistor-to-transistor logic. (See Henry Lowood: https://ieeexplore.ieee.org/document/5223982)
The earliest digital games emerged out of laboratories and research centers in the 1960s and 1970s. The intertwined histories of Nolan Bushnell's Computer Space and Pong illustrate the transition from these "university games" to accessible entertainment and educational games as well as the complicated historical relationship among the arcade, computer, and videogames.
Hi! I'm an over-eager junior dev advocate at GitHub. I'm passionate about #opensource , #dei , #contentcreation, and educating beginner devs. Outside of work things, I've been trying to find a hobby. However, I care about all things Black (I'm Afro-Caribbean) and girly (ie tech-themed nails).
I binge watch a lot of reality shows, so if you ever wanna talk about Love is Blind or Married at First Sight, I'm your girl!
