It’s hard not to say “AI” when everybody else does too, but technically calling it AI is buying into the marketing. There is no intelligence there, and it’s not going to become sentient. It’s just statistics, and the danger they pose is primarily through the false sense of skill or fitness for purpose that people ascribe to them.
Two types of #linux users. which one are you?

Honestly, I really dislike #BambuLab #3DPrinters. They're trying to essentially do to #3DPrinting what has happened to the paper printing industry - proprietarization and scummy capitalism.

3D Printing in the hobbyist space has always open-source - from the beginnings of the RepRap project to the modern Prusa Printers and the many i3 clones. All of this is possible because of
#OpenSource - and it feel like Bambu Lab is trying to capitalize and profit on all that volunteer effort while at the same time making all of their own stuff proprietary where they can. Trying to privatize the industry and shut out open-source where they can.

Hobbyist 3D Printing was only possible because of RepRap, whose driving force was open-source collaboration. Many cheap, accessible printers like the Ender 3 are also based off of the open-source Prusa i3 designs. Under capitalist "innovation", the 3D printers that came before were thousands of dollars and frankly unwieldy.

It really feels like they're trying to drive the industry in the direction where paper printing went. With their RFID-tagged filament cartridges, cloud-tied proprietary firmware, and closing down source code unless forced otherwise by a copyleft license.

Transgender people get diagnosed gender *dysphoria*, not dysmorphia.

Dysmorphia is an obsessive disorder where a person’s perception of reality is distorted. A dysphoria is a persistent unease with a distressing situation. You can have dysphoria from your crappy job. The treatment for a dysphoria is to change the situation. Losing weight doesn’t relieve dysmorphia for anorexic people. Transition does relieve dysphoria for trans people. We’re not delusional, we need a change of circumstance

Richard Stallman reveals he has cancer in the GNU 40 Hacker Meeting talk https://audio-video.gnu.org/video/gnu40/rms-gnu40.webm It's disheartening to hear the news. I sincerely hope for his speedy recovery and wish him all the best. He is a crucial figure in the current era of SaaS and cloud computing, especially with the abundance of unreliable AI generators controlled by big tech. It's a tough situation. #gnu #freesoftware #opensource
