an LLM is a compiler in the same way that a slot machine is an ATM

You ever see the movie _Floating Weeds_? Ozu's story of people just floating along, winding up where they may? That's been me for a minute now. Since I had to leave a bad situation and never got back on my feet.

For the first time in a long time, I had the faintest glimmer of an inkling of wanting something for myself. Of being the author of my own life. I won't pursue it, too much holding me down where I'm at. But….

Hey, I've got two dev roles to fill on the West Coast! 1. Intermediate web application engineer - React/Typescript/Next.js/Python for APIs. 3+ years experience, B.Sc preferred, this role starts Feb 13. 2. Intermediate Data(base) Engineer position coming open for March 1st. This role is focused on financial and royalties data. Note this is not an AI/ML/Data Science position, however you may be building data infrastructure for consumption by a couple of data sci's (and honestly any experience in those roles is a bonus). If you have most of the following: - 4+ years writing SQL - Experience with pipelining data around the cloud(s) and general orchestration of data collection - Some MySQL and/or Postgres experience - Python - B.Sc+ education We're a small-ish music company with big brand power. I won't post the roles publicly for a bit, but if you want the full JD or more info on either role, just DM me. #victoriabc #yyj #yvr #getfedihired #seattle #portland #washington #fedijobs #vancouverbc

In advance of #BandcampFriday, I added another new folky track to the almost-complete Patient Whales album. Listen close for the layers of MIDI guitar under the real thing:

Anyone know why this works?

Earth Wind And Fire's September, Rosh Hashanah, Fat Bear Week, the Fall Equinox apparently the Rapture are all happening around now, so it's understandable if you're feeling overwhelmed. Maybe pick one or two and just roll with them.
Me: This meeting could have been an email.
Also me: (gets an email) Goddammit.

I love that on fedi I will frequently come across posts which say things like, "I'm switching my LobNar configuration from Dexxxxus to Qzzzzp, because while I appreciate the LBND support, Drippz doesn't play well with *screeching sound repeated seven times at precise intervals* and my ¿~™€€÷¿ port is 33759904.5 so I can't install 🍒🍒🍒 without voiding my warranty."

And I'll look at it and wonder idly what the fuck they're talking about, but I don't have to care, so I let it flow over me like the lifeblood of the universe, while secretly harboring the suspicion that no one, not even the poster themselves, knows what the fuck they're talking about.

"We're allowed to kill these people" is treated as a religious belief which cannot be questioned or challenged because it represents a deeply-held spiritual view, but "be kind to each other" is just a theoretical idea, a non-binding philosophical abstraction, little more than a suggestion, really.

When you think of money as "other people's labor", which it basically is, a lot of social institutions become very strange.

For example, did you know that you can inherit millions of hours of other people's labor? Why.
