When an Icelandic #horse has a blue eyes it is known as glaseygður, glass eye.
I was told that when they have this eye, they can see hidden worlds. One of the horses I rode in #Iceland had glaseygður and whenever I rode him, I wondered what he could see in the landscape that I could not perceive #Folklore

The #Marabbecca is a legendary, nocturnal amphibian #cryptid from Sicilian #folklore. According to the myth - likely of Arab origin - the monstrous creature tends to inhabit ancient wells and water reservoirs, lurking in the turbid waters for clueless warm-blooded victims to walk by.

Just back from a morning walk on Ilkley Moor. Dark and dismal, I took no photos. Here's one from a better winter's day. The Badger Stone, carved in the Bronze Age, for purposes unknown. One of over 250 carved stones and other monuments on the moor, going back to the Neolithic.

I'm telling stories at a magical Christmas Market deep in the Northumbrian countryside this weekend.

Spread over two days and three villages, with loads of stalls, food, and entertainment (including me). Shuttle buses (or a steam train!) to get around. Come and enjoy some winter cheer and festivities if you're in the area.

Wind turbines kill birds.

While this is true, it misses an important piece of context:

Fossil fuel power plants kill 35x more birds per GWh than wind turbines do.

"The wider use of wind energy can save wildlife and birds as it displaces more harmful sources of electricity."

In other words, the best way to protect birds is to displace fossil fuels. #ClimateAction #EndFossilFuel

Apparently #WaterfallWednesday is a thing too.

My favourite #Northumberland #waterfall is Roughting Linn (or Routin Linn).

Meaning 'roaring pool' in Old English, the steep gorge combines with #prehistoric ditches to create a large, enclosed area, usage unknown. Just outside the ditches is a large rock outcrop with #CupAndRing carvings.

A lot of people comment on the peace of the location.
