A snap from the #ChristmasMarket in #Magdeburg.

You might remember that last year, a deranged man drove into the market, killing six people and injuring hundreds. This year, security has been significantly increased, with #police and private security patrolling everywhere. The #market, slightly smaller than usual, has been turned into something of a fortress, completely surrounded by barricades. A friend who works for the police said there's currently no safer place in Saxony-Anhalt than this #Christmas market. However, they also mentioned that maintaining this level of security isn't sustainable – they simply don't have the manpower or the funding. Still, it's likely their way of helping #people feel safe again. 👀
