If you love #ClassicalMusic, or music history in general, check out the Daily Classical Music news letter, by Laura Lawrie. To me, it’s been a wonderful way to start my day.

Today’s post on JS Bach (and Jethro Tull): https://lauralawrie.substack.com/p/daily-classical-music-post-db2

Do you #journal? Been using @DayOneApp for this for a few years, and while I love it, I’m thinking about moving back to paper: I spend most of my day in front of a screen, and I feel there’s an unstructured creativity to paper that’s hard to tap into w/a device.

What do you do?

If you like #TheLastOfUs and are looking for similar #BookRecommendations here you go:

- The Road (Cormack McCarthy)
- The Girl with All the Gifts (Mike Carey)
- Station Eleven (Emily St John Mandel)
- The Passage (Justin Cronin)
- The Gunslinger (Stephen King)
- Cell (King)

Got any more? Let me know! #books #bookstodon

One day, eventually, I will be good enough at cooking to use carbon steel or cast iron without destroying all the food I thrust upon it. I might even be able to cook a proper egg! Until that day, I guess I’ll use non-stick.

Finally sat down to watch “Sweeney Todd”.

Didn’t finish it. Well done, but just not my thing, I guess. Also, it felt like I was watching an alternate-universe HP story based around House Slytherin.

Spent all day editing or sleeping (not feeling well), but ready for the game. Let’s do it!

This #Bengals vs #Ravens game is absolutely fantastic. In fact, literally every playoff game this round has been amazing. #NFL #nflmastodon #NFLPlayoffs

Next French film for the night, “Oms en Série”, or “Forbidden Planet.” This is a world where humans (Oms) are not the dominant species, but instead pets of the Draag. One of these learns the Draag language and eventually works with other Oms to usurp the Draag.

This is a very 1960’s style of animation, reminiscent of Monty Python. At first, I didn’t think I’d like the film, but as it went on, I enjoyed further. It’s based on a book, “Oms en Série”, which is love to read, if I could find a copy for considerably less than $200. (Maybe #bookstodon help me out with this.) Given when it was written, I’m not surprised it reminds me of “Planet of the Apes”, which also had a similar theme, with humans being the subservient species.

I really like the story, and the animation… well, I got used to it.

Watching a movie called “The Piano Teacher”. It’s about a woman who is a piano teacher. She lives with her emotionally abusive mother, a relationship that leaves her with a fair amount of emotional scarring, making her unable to be honest with her own feelings and needs, and being cold to others in the process.

This is a master class on creating a sympathetic but unlike able main character. Watching this makes me miss my days as a musician: a lot of what they show in regards to lessons, practice sessions, and recitals is deeply familiar.
