Cooking food, eating food. From Lancashire via London to the Netherlands
Finally an alcohol-free beer I can shout about, here in Finland. How often is it you say "I wish I'd bought more of that alkofrei beer"?!? Suomenlinna's "Ton IPA" is a lovely clear IPA with a hint of peach in the scent, and a fresh foamy mouthfeel. It has a thin body, but we could that its style. It's great! #alcoholfree #nolo

The Dutch love big fluffy creamy cakes, and unfortunately the Dutch food industry is stuffing them full of unexpected meat juice, just to keep the cakes plump and fluffy...
Does the same happen in other countries? No! In British supermarkets the same thing ("custard slices") are fully vegetarian-friendly. Of course they are. #vegetarian #tompouce
Luckily one supermarket (hallo Jumbo!) makes pastries without pigs in! (Thanks @Timo_Micro for the trustworthy tompouce tip) #tompouce
Why? As explained in this hilarious Dutch TV programme https://npo.nl/start/serie/keuringsdienst-van-waarde/seizoen-24/gelatine/afspelen (in Dutch) it's really common here for airy desserts & pastries to use gelatine so that.... oh, for the full reason that they will keep their shape while being transported :( It's all about the production line!

Sadly, this year I learnt that they're not even vegetarian! (Most of them.) How come? Gelatine. Pork or beef, hidden in those seemingly lovely treats.
Today is King's Day in the Netherlands. Among other activities, many "tompouce" will be eaten! (Brits will recognise this as a "custard slice" or "cream slice"; Slovenians recognise their "kremšnita") #Netherlands #koningsdag #tompouce
Dutch treats... Does anyone know where to buy tompouce, that are not stuffed with gelatine? (i.e. #vegetarian!) #tompouce #Netherlands #gelatine #koningsdag
