@Bobbins I'd say it's totally worth it, you just need to find someone willing to give you a hand learning it. (Sorry.)

We should rethink how we teach people to code | deadSimpleTech

It's fair to say that the tech industry at the moment is not in a good place. Software engineers tend to be detached, demotivated and unwilling to care much about the work they're doing beyond their paycheck. Code quality is poor on the whole, made worse by the current spate of vibe coding and whatever other febrile ideas come out of Sam Altman's brain. Much of the software that we write is either useless or actively hurts people. And the talented, creative people that we most need in the industry are pushed to the margins of it.

@Craigp I've been doing the same, except now I know what I've been missing to truly motivate me: an arch-enemy.
@jplebreton Everyone but Wendy seems to already regret their circumstances, so a rebellion seems inevitable. There are many contradictions regarding their ability - or lack there of - to grow. I think the most likely path forward is that the show uses the emotional transition from preteens to teenagers to show that life can't be tamed by corporate interests. The CEO would like them to remain children (and his property), but the train can't be stopped.
@jplebreton I think fascination would be too strong a word. There's the whole theme of humans thinking they're no longer part of the food chain - that's even more so for the CEOs. Life is meaningless to them, just as it is for the aliens. The creatures are just a resource, same as the human lives they expend when they try to get them. That's what I see, so far. ("And in the show!", etc.) Monsters at both ends.
@Craigp Did... did it attract bears or something? :D
@MOOMANiBE I don't. An old demo is better than no demo, unless you think the older demo is actively turning people away, in which case it shouldn't have been released in the first place. Removing demos always makes me suspicious, as if the developer wants to prevent me from actually seeing what I'm about to buy.

@Craigp I got excited after just recently listening to the episode they did on the topic. Even happier to hear you've recovered!

Out of curiosity, were there any games you were particularly happy with? Surprises/frustrations?

@Craigp Not a game recommendation, but you might find something useful here: https://99percentinvisible.org/adapt/
Adapt or Design - 99% Invisible

Last year, 99pi’s Kurt Kohlstedt suffered a severe injury that incapacitated his right arm and dominant hand. In the aftermath, new everyday challenges led him to research, test, and evolve accessible design solutions. These experiences set the stage for Adapt or Design, a twelve-part project of 99% Invisible in three acts. The finalization of this

@joe_wintergreen Hm, you mention that the game requires a minimap, but I'm pretty sure I was able to play the whole thing with UI completely turned off. The second one fails the "no minimap" test pretty early, though. As do all the subsequent ones. I love being able to go about my business in a game's world by actually engaging with it, instead of the UI, but I guess it wasn't a priority ever again.
