Tech is my passion, running a startup company - getting to implement RISC-V architecture on fpga hardware is a welcome new challenge of hardware software co-design
Love travel, random adventures, and making the best of good fortunes in life. Cheers!
I finally cancelled Office365! I've been so off it that I didn't even notice Microsoft forcefully bundled AI for additional fees to my subscription without my consent. It took a while because of OneDrive storage, but I'm over it now. 2 years of using Debian as my only system, and I am fully settled in and have found alternatives to all software I need. I can't wait for Debian Trixie in 2 weeks, which brings Official support for RISCV - a monumental milestone for open source. I also can't wait for Tenstorrent's Ascalon RISCV CPUs. For the first time this year, it will be possible to build a custom PC with a full open source software, firmware, bios stack - complete control and transparency.

They can do better! ๐Ÿ˜†

This is just aborrent.

A news site promote their articles that are paywalled, but are "free" to hear (narrated) through an AI voice.

Not only that one human voice less that is going to get paid, but also they want their juicy engagement numbers up artificially, which are great for advertisement.

Is journalism death? No, but this is how you kill it.

today in ancient obscure FPGA toolchain request: does anyone know how to obtain ORCA Foundry (90s-era AT&T/Lucent toolchain)?

(also my older search for any toolchain supporting XC6200/XC8100 devices continues, as does the search for XPLA Designer aka Philips software with support for pre-XPLA3 coolrunners)

(boosts very much welcome!)

I expect the Arc B580 to be around the A770 in performance, but have lower power consumption (somewhat closer to eg. 7600), as that would match the improvements we've seen with AMD going from N7- to N5-class nodes

That would still be terrible PPAC vs the competition though, so I'd hope for more

Hey friends!
For folks interested in #RISCV, and especially #RVV, here's some information on the #tenstorrent in house designed CPU!

High level, vector is 2x256, full RVV1.0 as well as a fair few of the optional extras to RVV1.0!

LLVM Merges Support The For Tenstorrent TT-Ascalon-D8 RISC-V CPU

Adding to the interesting code building up for next spring's release of the LLVM 20 compiler stack is having the Tenstorrent TT-Ascalon D8 as the newest RISC-V processor target.

Microsoft Connected Experiences means they collect your Word and Excel files for AI training. Why not call it AI training? Why use such words? This is an unethical practice followed by a trillion-dollar corporation. How is this even legal? I am so glad that I donโ€™t have Windows OS or MS office.
@liliputing_ all the youtubers want to talk about the top of the line gaming CPUs and how #Intel is "losing" to AMD and Nvidia, but the fact is that for 99% of what normal people do with computers, #N100 is FINE, costs as much as a rasberrypi and creates no heat or noise.
I really wish open source Office-like applications for Android were better. Both Collabora and OnlyOffice are basically unusable.

I'm finally able to run DaVinci Resolve 19 with a dedicated #Intel #ARC #GPU on my #Debian. It required various latest Intel compute libraries from Intel's github to get it working (v24.39+), and some Resolve libraries removed from its folder (so it'd pickup the system libs instead). #Blender needed one additional Intel package to get going too. Overall, an hour spent figuring it out, but I now have acceleration.
