Medievalist, troublemaker. Chaotic good with redneck roots, now working as a graduate student & instructor in North Carolina’s Triangle. Talking (excessively) about #Medieval things, #Medievalisms, #ADHD, #Pedagogy, #GradSchool and #WorkersRights, and sometimes #RomanceNovels, #CommunityCollege, #Fungi, #iNaturalist, #art and rural (actually north, not central) #NorCal.

Hello and happy #FossilFriday from home (Shasta County, California) and a tiny outcropping of the Chico Formation that I just determinedly hunted through 😌
Two essential things that get me through #grading season in Nov/Dec every year:
1. Spending a stupid amount of time right before things get intense making my own pumpkin spice creamer by cooking pumpkin purée with half and half & spices & meticulously straining before adding oat milk
2. Having a reliable and well-tended to #ThanksgivingCactus to bloom on schedule and give me some cheer
Did someone say #SlimeMoldSunday? 👀 Here’s an #Arcyria snail feast from late August
Thinking about my deep and enduring love of #nudibranchs and how I haven’t gotten to see one in MONTHS
I have been running some Fed CPI and American Community Survey data looking at recent Chapel Hill/Orange County, NC cost of living changes and the results are INTERESTING

I am going to teach some Alabama songs in class today—we’re thinking about narrative and place as we learn humanities analysis—to note the passing of Jeff Cook. Ripe ground for “Southern” and “country” dissection.

I also keep tearing up because the music is near and dear to my heart and the latter article excerpt is breaking me. Time to embarrass myself in class & make sure my students have confusing news to report home about their blue-haired, pronoun-using teacher’s “indoctrination” attempts.
