Hello!
My name's Niko, I'm a writer from Canada. He/they, 23.
Currently working on a science fiction novel called Quantum Immortality!

I remember #NaNoWriMo's innocent early days of simply cranking out a terrible first draft without your internal editor interfering, and then watched in disappointment over the years as it became institutionalized and started taking itself way too $eriou$ly.

This latest misstep isn't terribly $urpri$ing, and they surely won't be the last arts organization to make a tone deaf decision related to "AI" non$en$e.

NaNoWriMo Says Condemning AI Is ‘Classist and Ableist’

The organization that runs National Novel Writing Month, a November challenge to write 50,000 words, said "the categorical condemnation of Artificial Intelligence has classist and ableist undertones."

The angry phoebe looking majestic. He only sits still for 20 seconds at most so it took a while to get this shot.
Yesterday was almost entirely full of constant, quiet rain. Here is a sopped little nuthatch in a pause between rainfalls.

CSS quick tip: if you're adding quotation characters use `open-quote` and `close-quote` as content because they consider the document language. 💪

How to display language-specific quotes in CSS

We are told that success means doing more, achieving more, and being more efficient.

But this shitty sidequest, this hamster wheel, this relentless pursuit of productivity is making us less human. It’s making us less happy.

And it’s making us less…well, us.

Like every morning. I rubbed my eyes, already feeling the weight of the day pressing down on me. I had a meeting at 7:30, a project deadline at noon, and a seemingly endless stream of meetings that…

Next time you're tempted to attribute some sort of vast conspiracy to Google, remind yourself that somehow an office, where people needed to use wifi, was designed in such a way that the whole thing would obstruct radio propagation, and then it got built, and then Google put workers inside it, and finally they figured out why wifi wasn't working. These are not the masterminds of any vast conspiracy, I promise.

Google’s self-designed office swallows Wi-Fi “like the Bermuda Triangle”

Bad radio propagation means Googlers are making do with Ethernet cables, phone hotspots.

Take action (one small step) on something you’ve been avoiding that will make your life better in the long run.

My partner gave me some writing advice today: when developing any major aspect of your story, you should ask why it is the way it is. If there's another way you could write it that makes more sense, do that. Some stories are frustrating to read because it's not believable that this is the way a specific plot point had to happen.

@ChrisMayLA6 @Unuhi @PiperCasp @bookstodon It's a gift to have the option. My eyes have gotten weaker as I've aged. #Audiobooks have been a great blessing. I went from barely being able to read a chapter a day to finishing entire novels in a couple days, just like when my eyes were younger.
All I want for Christmas is a domesticated raccoon that wants to eat lasagna with me & go on quirky adventures. It would also be nice if the raccoon could do magic but I understand that is asking a lot and therefore, it is not required.
