The real magic of "maximizing shareholder value" is that it absolutely nails the modern trifecta of memetic capitalism, which is unfortunately what most of economics boils down to: it's an easy thing to measure, it's an easy story to repeat, and it's useful to the already powerful that people keep measuring and repeating it.

How incredibly freeing it must be! A mantra that lets you escape the complexity of a modern organization, and think nothing more than "this number should go up"?

'Over the summer, Keir Starmer’s Labour Party for the first time articulated a clear vision for government: everything will continue to be awful. Nothing will get better. Hope is for fools. And, most importantly, no one with wealth or power need worry themselves that any of either will be taken from them.'

It's interesting to see how many current Tesla owners are now expressing embarrassment at driving them in public, due to the now unavoidable associations with Musk's increasingly fascist behavior and statements, with many owners noting that they will never drive another one, and many prospective drivers saying they will now cancel and/or look elsewhere than Tesla.

Of course it's not fair for drivers (who bought into Teslas before Musk's true proclivities were obvious) to be faced with this, but that's what Musk has done to the brand -- single-handedly and with eyes wide open.

The Sunday Express has now corrected their false claim about unaccompanied asylum seeking children and admitted that they misrepresented the facts, after IPSO upheld my complaint.

Correction

Our article headlined 'Two thirds of asylum seekers who claimed to be children were found to be over 18', published on 9th July 2022, stated that, according to Home Office figures, two thirds of asylum seekers who claimed to be unaccompanied children were found to be over 18. This was incorrect and misrepresented the data published by the Home Office; and the proportion of unaccompanied child asylum seekers arriving in the UK. In fact, this claim referred only to the 2,315 cases where the Home Office suspected the claimant was in fact over 18, of whom 1,501 were found to be over 18. This correction has been published following an upheld ruling by the Independent Press Standards Organisation.

But he does have £30m to give to rail companies for every day there's a strike.

We need to share wealth that is created. Companies should always give dividends to employees as well as shareholders. Govt should also give out dividends - some of the corporation tax collected should be evenly distributed to every man, women and child. Everyone can benefit.

BREAKING:

Tory MPs have been told that the government *will not* try to vote down Labour's humble address on PPE contracts linked to Michelle Mone

Means that the motion - which is trying to force the publication of texts and emails - will pass unopposed

In many ways, my generation (x) had a very old-fashioned upbringing. So much of children's programming was from the 1920s-50s. Harold Lloyd, Laurel & Hardy, Sherlock Holmes, Tarzan, and Ray Harryhausen films, King of the Rocket Men, Flash Gordon's Trip to Mars. And when we went to the cinema to see new films (Star Wars, Indiana Jones) they were homages to serials from the 1930s! Does modern kids' TV programming still include 30-40 year old material?
