@oscarjiminy the conclusion echoes criticisms I've made of ADHD (and neurodivergent) characterization: so much of it is defined by what assessors think is a problem, not what the individual being assessed thinks is a problem.

My brother and I were both diagnosed with ADHD as adults. Looking back, the evidence was all there when we were younger but because neither of us "acted out" or noticeably struggled academically it wasn't brought up. Even the name, attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder, is biased towards the impact it has on others. My problem isn't that I lack attention, it's that I lack of control of attention. Sure, that makes it harder to concentrate sometimes, but it also means I miss meals or don't sleep because I can't interrupt myself. Not staying on task is what teachers care about though, so it is what gets focused on.

what we thought we knew about autism and... whatnot

'For decades, researchers had been measuring the wrong thing. Conflating communication style differences with empathy deficits produced dramatically inflated effect sizes and an illusion of empathy impairment'

What the World Got Wrong About Autistic People

For decades, autism research compared autistic people to animals, denied them moral sensitivity, and assumed autistic traits made them miserable. All wrong.

Last night's #LunarEclipse from my balcony.

Using DSLR + Telescope.

Cursed clouds parted just enough to get a few nice shots in!

Now, I need EVERYONE to do whatever they have to do to ensure there are no clouds on 22 July 2028 - total solar eclipse over Australia!

#Astrodon #Astronomy

This is the first lunar eclipse since I got my new camera, so I can finally take moon photos! Hurray!

When I say "I hate AI", I mean #AI driven #LLM that produce endless streams of slop

I hate AI in it's current form

There are ways that would benefit humanity drastically with improving AI but the goals are wrong

We need to create cures against a LOT of diseases, support people with disabilities, find a better way to combat poverty, solve complicated equations and on and on..

At it's current form it's eating and hogging resources doing things humans want to do

They made me hate it

@angelastella I was literally just bemoaning to my partner today the tendency of people to think “I don’t understand or enjoy this so it is clearly OBJECTIVELY BAD”, instead of the surely-more-logical position of “ah, I suspect this is simply not for me, as it is clearly valuable to others”.

And it goes for fucking EVERYTHING. Gender, sexuality, art, media. Some people just cannot handle not being catered to by literally everything around them.
