8 new F clamps for Christmas this year! Maybe I have enough of those, now. Maybe.
Next year more C and spring clamps š
Thinks about systems. Works with people on software (security) products. Raises adults (from children) thoughtfully. Would like to be making things, especially furniture or structures, but is instead fixing his house. Travels and learns new things (bridge, motorcycle, scuba, skiing) with whatever time is left.
Tries to not post or boost negative stuff.

@Rajiv I would NOT recommend those clamps. They were a gift, many years ago, and I've even considered throwing them away.
Those little red buttons aren't reliable, but that's probably specific to this model.
The bigger problem is that they're clunky to use, and bulky to store, and 2 isn't nearly enough of them. I'd much rather have a set of those 90-degree metal brackets, and use regular clamps to hold them in place. Much more flexible utility.

AI models donāt really 'get' the BSDs. As a result, they often provide incomplete, imprecise, or flat-out wrong answers by defaulting to Linux paradigms. When it comes to illumos-based systems, they just completely lose the plot.
This is becoming a serious issue for the BSDs and illumos ecosystems. We are seeing entire websites flooded with AI-generated tutorials and guides that are totally incorrect. Most people don't realize this; they follow the instructions, fail, and then assume that the BSDs doesn't work well or are 'unstable' because they have supposedly changed since the guide was written.
Luckily, some people eventually find my blog, reach out, and finally understand what's actually going on. Others, unfortunately, end up on major social sites or comments, claiming that these systems are broken.
In 2026, one of our greatest challenges will be teaching people how to vet their sources and filter information.
And I see this as a very, very uphill battle.

And with that, my email is managed by @fastmail, and I'm one big step more-off Google!
There were some rough edges, coming from Qmail. But Fastmail (the software) seems great, and the Fastmail support people have been fantastic.
...and then right at the end, in my zeal to clean things out, I accidentally deleted the primary user account on my server. So now I get to shave that #yak š¤¦āāļø
#PSA: Don't delete users when you're exhausted.
(I will eventually write this all up on my blog.)
@filippo Iāve been having similar experiences with exe.dev, and similar feelings as a consequence. Iām settling into āthis is really a good thing - as long as the software really is disposableā. I need time to see if that really holds true in the long run.
Exe.dev also gives me an easy sandbox for exposing code to LLM agents in a way Iām not comfortable doing on my personal machines.
If another year feeding #BigTech is getting you down, consider running your own infrastructure. Become part of the change.
In just 6 hrs I'll guide you through the process of building up & securing your very own low-carbon, private & powerful cloud & videoconf platform in an EU datacenter, under your domain.
Easy to upgrade, backup & maintain, you can create accounts for colleagues, friends & fam, giving them the digital dignity they deserve, this year & beyond.
