I wonder how soon pure Linux on mobile will become normalized to the point where we can flash old iOS devices with decent hardware performance with Linux and make them usable again with up-to-date security fixes. That would be cool so that we can salvage old iPhones, iPod Touches and iPads that can't run the latest versions of Apple's OSes for those devices. Bonus points if we can flash old iPods to run Linux, too.

@revv @stown My problem with mailinabox is that my outgoing mail gets blocked by Spamhaus. Mailinabox was fairly easy to setup thanks to @MickInTX. However, until I figure out the outgoing block, its unusable. It could be a problem with Linode where I host my mail server, but neither Linode or Spamhaus could give a me a resolution.
@radfordhound ok, so bloat or break
@radfordhound wow, this is starting to make more sense to me. I started trying to use Linux a few months ago. I’ve seen a lot of controversy over Snap vs Flatpak and I see a lot about Wayland (havent looked into what that is yet). thanks for the explination.
@radfordhound interesting, so is there some reason that developers dont use the first option and/or prefer the second?
@radfordhound @hikari newbie question, what about AppImages? Don’t they work on all distros, are they bloated?
Interesting. They didnt mention using a password manager. I dont type many passwords these days. I wonder how much using a password manager with MFA reduces the risk to this attack. https://fortune.com/2023/08/08/artificial-intelligence-listen-keyboard-typing-steal-sensitive-information-cybersecurity-research/
A.I. can identify keystrokes by just the sound of your typing and steal information with 95% accuracy, new research shows

Researchers had artificial intelligence listen to the sounds of typing through a phone and over Zoom, with eerie results.

@kellogh do you have a favorite example?
We Call on FOSS Contributors to “Exit Zoom”

Software Freedom Conservancy stands with concerned users and consumers; we too face difficult choices with respect to software rights and freedom. As part of our ongoing advocacy work, we educate and help people to choose more Free and Open Source Software (“FOSS”), and we aid developers to create and improve FOSS options for the general public. We also strive to “meet people where they are.”

@news that’s amazing! I would love to build something like this.
