Today’s pickings. I have to keep after these, otherwise the nearby chipmunks stuff their cheeks with them! Bird netting and coffee grounds help deter some of the berry seekers.

After we removed all the yews I had planted in 1986, the space beneath the front windows lay dormant for several years. In 2018, on a whim, we put in three small blueberry bushes under the dining room side of the house. Five years on we are finally getting some respectable harvests… more or less :o)

It's been chilly here (about 13°C/55°F). I did get the pumpkins (four hills) and cukes (six hills) planted in the side garden, and cultivated/weeded the main garden as well. Weeding was done via stirrup hoe (scuffle hoe) and rototilling (I haven't yet mulched).

I only found about stirrup hoes a couple of years back- they are fantastic! There are youtube videos about them if you are interested.
