@cstross I certainly don't get all your references, but it is so much fun when I get one. And when I don't, I may get some joy from looking them up, to be prepared for the next book.

Simple age check for Linux:

Just have the shell ask the user to check the host IP on first boot.

If they type ifconfig they are old enough, if they type ip addr they deserve to be restricted from their computer 😇

@agentultra @cstross I totally agree. I had to stop listening to the audiobook version and read it myself in order to not miss anything. BTW what is the correct pronunciation of Phibes? The audio book says it like it rhymes with beeps. In the intro to the Dr. Phibes film on youtube they pronounce it like vibes.

The inevitable slow death of the power user in the age of tech capitalism.

Because power users are bad consumers.

@deshipu Hard to say if you don't have any error bars.
The worst thing about online learning is that everything has become a video. Every code tutorial. Every design tutorial. Nobody actually writes out a guide anymore. It's just "hey guys welcome to my tutorial" and watching 10 minutes of content that isn't remotely relevant...
@cstross @timo21 @alex_p_roe If F1 teams can 3D print their engine parts, it really should not be a problem.
