I've just got to say how happy I am with the Mastodon community, especially all the science/space people that I'm following. This place is the clear winner after the social media meltdown, despite its outstanding issues and missing features.

What makes me even more excited is that it's open and unmonetized, so it's completely immune to shareholder demands or the whim of a billionaire.

Don't worry if your friends aren't here yet, we're your new friends.

This morning, while listening to Wired's Have a Nice Future podcast, Noah Raford made an interesting point: AI could potentially shift the global power balance. AI could break down barriers that (might) exist for someone in a second-or-third-world country by augmenting the available resources.

My friend and I have been working on an #infosec site called #secflux that is an aggregate resource for #news , #articles , #blogs , #trainings , #howtos , #webcasts , #podcasts , and more.

We wanted to create a better way to receive updates, trends, and information about #security topics, while giving ourselves a #creative outlet for own related #content. So, we made a site dedicated to just that!

In any case, the flagship blogpost I’ve cobbled together is about #burnout — A topic many of you might have noticed I bring up quite a bit.

I hope this helps anyone and everyone that might have previously or could be currently experiencing burnout. (It definitely felt great to write it, I hope it feels equally cathartic when people read it.)

Please read, like, share, bookmark the site, and all that jazzy jazz! 🎷

📋 Edit: We do have a newly created Mastodon account for the site! @secflux

We’re working on adding some more social media representation and integrations as we speak!

The Prevalence of Burnout in Infosec - SecFlux

What is burnout and why are so many in tech and infosec feeling the heat? And why can't we seem to stay away from the fire? Read more…

As someone who has struggled with thin / weak enamel, this is the type of life changing research that really makes my day.

Edit: That picture (if you see it) is associated with The Daily Mail and is not, in fact, a picture of me. =)

The medication, a game-changer if proven to work, offers hope for millions living with dentures. Researchers in Japan hope the treatment could be rolled out to patients by 2030 if successful.

"Piracy can't be stealing if paying for it isn't owning"

This is increasingly how it feels, when things you "own" digitally become inaccessible, and when shows which are locked in streaming services can get delisted on a whim, disappearing forever.

Thank you @Illuminatus for this quote.

[Edit: In case this wasn't clear, this is about entertainment and digital ownership, not physical goods]

Hello, my name is Matt. I am an instructional designer, eLearning developer, and trainer. I'm very interested in #coffee and #espresso. I love language (in general), and I study French (although I'm not very advanced). I'm very interested in #technology in general and #infosec in particular.

I've had a cautious relationship with social media for the last several years; however, I really like what I've observed so far on Mastodon: interesting people posting about interesting things. My hope is that Mastodon can be what IRC was in its best days.
