I'm seeing some posts saying that Mastodon is "slow".
Rest assured that it wasn't slow yesterday, it was surprisingly fast! It's just that the off-the-charts number of new signups will slow it down for a while.
I'm sure it will speed up again in a few days, depending how long this influx lasts (and whether Twitter actually does disappear completely). The network was able to absorb the previous waves OK in the end.
I want to see local feeds of some other great instances. Is this possible without moving my account??

rolenthedeepGeneral warning to all new users: most mastodon servers are going to perform poorly as they take on a lot of new users. Most servers are small affairs run by a single person. Things are going to be slow, and things are going to break.
Be patient, be respectful, and tip your admin.
It's going to be a rough ride in the fediverse for a while. These are strange times and no one was prepared.
Mastodon is strange and new, and it's uncomfortable here right now. Be patient, it's worth it.

TinaIf you are still on twitter go tell your ppl how much you love and appreciate them. Twitter really is/was a “safe space” for a lot of ppl. That gay kid who had to leave FB bc their family hates them. That lib living in a red state (😊) I doubt twitter dies in a day or two but it ain't looking good. Go find your ppl and let them know where to find you. They may need you more than you need them or vice versa.

I know it's soooo bad what Elon did to Twitter, really.
But I've been running this server for over 3 years now to flee Twitter and somehow it feels things are falling into place...
I have met such amazing and wonderful people here on the Fediverse that I consider my true friends no matter where they live❤️
The only thing I want is for you to have the same and here you have a chance do that just that!
JustinAfter using Mastodon since yesterday, it reminds me of how I browsed forums and IRC channels back in the day for gaming and other interests.
The separate servers and information-finding through follows and hashtags are not as complex as I initially assumed, but it does require more effort than the other social media platforms because of the decentralization.
Regardless it feels like a breath of fresh air since my feed is reliant on my own customization
