Last week, we presented our new NWE #Interreg project #PREWAPHARM at the Campus Earth day at the University of #Münster. Turns out that many people are already aware of the problems that #pharmaceutical residues can cause in our #water bodies and we had some great discussion on ways to solve this problem. In PREWAPHARM, we are working on microbial solutions to remove harmful compounds directly at the source, e.g. hospitals, care facilites, remote communities.

#ms3105 Münster und alle Freundinnen und Freunde auf der Straße machen auch heute wieder Mut. Die meisten Nazis kamen erst gar nicht, der Rest kam nicht weit

Very exited to be back in #bochum for the #VAAM2025 meeting. Looking forward to many interesting sessions and talks. See you there

Personal crises keep you awake at night? the current political climate doesn't let you sleep? your children turn night into day?

Grow up some Chlamydomonas cultures, grap the closest microscope, and start counting.

Taking a deep dive into the history of #microbiology in our Interspecies Interactions lab course, repeating one of the seminal experiments by Kenneth Nealson et al from the 1970s, which finally led to the discovery of bacterial communication and quorum sensing. The students had some extra fun with the bioluminescent Vibrio #bacteria we used for the experiment

The joint conference of the #DGHM and the #VAAM 2024 was a great success with tons of interesting talks and posters and lots of new acquaintances. See you next year in Bochum #microbiology

It's official, the final version of our newest research is out in The ISME Journal: "Bacteria use a catabolic patchwork pathway of apparently recent origin for degradation of the synthetic buffer compound TRIS"

Read all about how #Pseudomonas and other #bacteria have learned to eat our well-beloved #TRIS buffer.
