Hallo! I'm Micah Lahren, and I love everything even slightly tech related, started with Apple II and never looked back. Decades spread over too many areas 😂 #arduino #linux #ubuntu #micropython #python #javascript #webdev #webdesign #AI #android #appdev #networking #infosec #customROM #graphics #softwaredev #programming #security #maker #solutions
Lots of “can Mastodon replace Twitter” posts, and I think that’s maybe not a fruitful line of inquiry. There isn’t “a Twitter” - it was many things over its tenure, and in most instances Twitter itself couldn’t replace the Twitter of just a few years previous. For Twitter at any point in time I think it’s very unlikely that anything will replicate *that* specific alchemy of platform design, user behavior, and user population. Social networks are constantly in flux, even if the org behind them makes no changes. The Twitter I miss is different from the Twitter you miss, and because of that there isn’t “a twitter” to try and replace

UPDATE: no need for further boosting. Thank you everyone!

My boss, Matt Mullenweg, the boss of Automattic, owner of Tumblr, is looking for ex-Twitter employees for Tumblr, saying,

"we're putting on a fast track to see how they can help super-charge Tumblr. We can't absorb thousands of people, but I'd be open to hiring entire teams if they already work great together."

Matt Mullenweg on Twitter

“@levelsio @automattic In particular I'd say people leaving @twitter we're putting on a fast track to see how they can help super-charge @tumblr. We can't absorb thousands of people, but I'd be open to hiring entire teams if they already work great together.”

Twitter

“The internet’s town square should never have been one specific website with its own specific rules and incentives. It should have been, and should be, the web itself.

The web is wide open again, for the first time in what feels like forever.”

@irina I hope everyone talks about life, the universe and everything on here from an ND perspective
@infosec Oh someone beat me to it! Snap! 😜
Well here goes: @infosec should spin one up

Here's a neat #Mastodon trick I just discovered:

You can access an RSS feed of any user's posts simply by adding .rss onto the end of their profile URL — so, for instance:

https://twit.social/@jr.rss

You can then use that link to follow all of that person's posts in Feedly, Feedbin, or any other RSS reading service.

Heck, you can even do it directly in #Chrome, if you want!

Maybe it's too late.

Saw someone post that #Mastodon was not a replacement for the #birdsite. Complaints followed in the replies. e.g. "it's not easy enough for me" "I don't know which one to pick?" "I can't just sign up and hear from everyone everywhere at once??" #twittermigration Somehow this felt like a fairly decent analogy. Perhaps a better analogy would have been rescue ships offering refuge. Content warning? Sinking ship? *dunno*
