**Why Australia lags behind the rest of the world in taxing oil and energy giants.**

Why Australia lags behind the rest of the world in taxing oil and energy giants

If you're an oil and gas producer, Australia is a fantastic place to operate. If, however, you're an Australian citizen (or a treasurer trying to balance the books), the tax system leaves a lot to be desired, writes Ian Verrender.

My eldest has been cast in The Trials and it’s been making me think a lot about culpability for climate change.

I strongly believe that it’s a structural issue and the focus on individual responsibility has historically been used by fossil fuel companies to distract from their role in perpetuating it for profit.

But… we are also all responsible and have run out of excuses not to take meaningful action.

Why restoring long-distance passenger rail makes sense in New Zealand -- for people and the climate

As part of its target to cut emissions, New Zealand aims for a 20% reduction in driving by 2035, mainly through better urban planning and travel options. Why doesn’t the plan mention intercity rail?

For posterity - this amazing creator is not on the fediverse (as far as I know) but I wish he was.

We need ethical sports sponsorship when it comes to the #ClimateCrisis , and the professional cycling Pro tour especially so.

Extinction Rebellion’s #TourDownUnder protests should be a wake-up call for cycling. Tennis Australia🎾 and the Science Schools📚 Project have both dropped #Santos as a sponsor, so why hasn't the Tour Down Under?

Reminder that nonviolence is not the same thing as just not being violent. It is an active form of resistance, intervention, and capacity-building. 🖤✊

“If peace means a willingness to be exploited economically, dominated politically, humiliated and segregated, I don’t want peace. If peace means being complacently adjusted to a deadening status quo, I don’t want peace. …. Peace is not simply the absence of conflict, but the existence of justice for all people.” -Martin Luther King Jr.

What in the hell is happening on the bird site?

This is insane. We've barely even begun to see how much long covid there is.
We're just going to gaslight a whole population about their health problems?
I mean we've done it to minority groups forever so I guess so, huh.
