Caveat: I know NYC could do better with regard to bicycle infrastructure. But. I had such an awesome ride yesterday morning that was through 3 boroughs and at least 60%, possibly more, was protected bike lanes. It was just so pleasant and I realized how much better things are now than they were when I started exploring the city by bike just about a decade and a half ago. So many more protected bike lanes. So much more bike route signage. Hopefully things just keep improving. #bikenyc #BikeTooter

This is a pretty interesting podcast episode about the high costs and low productivity of construction. In case you don't want to check out the whole thing, though, there's an interesting point about 15 minutes in. THREAD. #urbanism+ www.theringer.com/2023/9/12/23...

@megmac Making transit free is a lower priority use of scarce resources compared to making transit good. If the bus comes every 30 minutes, it doesn't matter if it's free; most people will choose to drive.
@Andres4NY He has absolutely no vision when it comes to transportation AFAIK. What a waste of an immensely powerful position.
@dx If sidewalks count, there's stuff like this, although I think adoption has slowed down recently (don't quote me on that, though). https://www.forbes.com/sites/bernardmarr/2021/11/05/the-future-of-delivery-robots/?sh=24a148837337
The Future Of Delivery Robots

Delivery robots – just a few years ago, the stuff of pure science fiction – are now very much a reality and quickly becoming a part of everyday life for many of us. In fact, I will usually come across five or six when I go for an evening jog in my hometown of Milton Keynes, England!

@davidzipper If this ends up being true, it will be a pretty bad thing--encouraging even more people to leave walkable areas and migrate to drivable ones.
Pardon the Franglish

This battle over congestion pricing is a classic example of the liberal blind spot towards cars. Some Democrats are progressive on every issue, except reducing driving.

New Jersey’s War on Congestion Pricing Brings Charges of Hypocrisy

A lawsuit that Gov. Philip Murphy of New Jersey has filed against New York’s congestion pricing plan has reignited a border war and led to charges of hypocrisy.

JFC. I was wondering what happened to the Tubman $20 bill, and apparently the answer is "stuck inside a bureucracy that thinks it's reasonable and fine to take longer to design and release a new piece of currency than it took to go from the first Mercury launch to Apollo 11." I fucking despair. https://wapo.st/3Q79KJA
When will Harriet Tubman adorn the $20 bill?

The Biden administration promised to speed up the process of replacing Andrew Jackson with the famous abolitionist. But Tubman’s boosters say the process is dragging on at a glacial pace.
