The BBC on Mastodon: experimenting with distributed and decentralised social media

Trialling ActivityPub and the federated model for social media and it's possibilities for the BBC.

BBC R&D
@ThePlant Second season is also coming next year :)
I miss Google+ a lot. It was and still is the best social media app I've used.
I noticed recently that #GuildWars2 suddenly got performance improvements and now runs at around 59-60 FPS on my #SteamDeck.
It's on a lower-ish setting but the FSR makes it looks really good still. I'm pretty happy with this performance improvement surprise.

If Threads successfully integrates well with Mastodon's fediverse, and proves popular with the mass, I would love to see XMPP or Signal or whatever open standard protocol for messaging be next to rise.

I DO NOT want to maintain 9 different chat apps any longer.

People seems to be more hype around Mastodon apps lately. What am I missing out on? I quite enjoy the web app interface so I just have PWA on my phone. Are there any app-exclusive features I should know about?

PS. I follow a Mastodon app developer here and I think what he's doing is cool and neat but I'm not sure what the difference to the PWA is aside from the UI.

That's also my takeaway from reading this. Having a rigid paid structure was not right for a standard body. Instead a clear grant guideline should be given to
any commited working group without corporate sponsorships to apply to be a member.
I'm annoyed that I can't buy a laptop with Thai keyboard anywhere outside of Thailand.
@ash Hmm ... the comma placement ... ?

I can't repeat this often enough.

What I want web3 to be about is gossip protocol like scuttlebutt and activitypub like mastodon. We need open, decentralized, and federated internet, and peer-to-peer protocol should be web3 focus.
