The (edit:) CURRENT beta version of #Signal is version 7.0.0.
There's a good reason for the round number. This will be the first version where usernames and phone number privacy are available outside of the staging environment.
From this version on, you'll be able to talk to people on Signal without revealing your phone number, and also, you may use Signal without revealing to people who have your number saved that you do.
This is huge.

I'm so delighted we can finally announce this today, proud of the work my team put in, and yet sad to live in a world where we know it's needed: https://www.eff.org/deeplinks/2023/04/eff-now-has-tor-onions
EFF Now Has Tor Onions

Today, we’re announcing .onion addresses for eff.org and two of its affiliated projects: Certbot, an EFF-developed tool for automatically obtaining and renewing TLS certificates for websites, and Surveillance Self-Defense, which provides resources and guidance for individuals and organizations to...

How to become a Democratic delegate in 5 steps:
1. Google “find my Legislative district”
2. Go to your State website & search by your address

So, now that I'm giving in-person talks again, what conferences should I go to? Obviously, I will go do talks where I'm invited, but suggestions for conferences to submit talks to are also welcome. I am more likely to finish my research if I have promised to do a talk about it.
This is really quite fascinating. There is exactly one ISP that is blocking mail from the mail server I run, which is used to deliver mail for infosec.exchange - t-online.de. It annoys me to no end that I see people try to subscribe to infosec.exchange and the confirmation emails are rejected. So, I contacted their postmaster, and to their credit, they got back to me very quickly, but they are basically saying "yeah, you need to use one of the big mail providers if you want to send mail to t-online subscribers".... Ok then. My apologies to any t-online subscribers (who probably can't see this anyhow), but you'll apparently need to use a different email account to register.

Is there a way to mute someone from your main timeline when you move them to a list?

E.g. I like to see news about Ukrainian, so I follow certain verbose accounts that I don’t want to see all the time.

Spent almost two hours before I finally found the position this whiney infant wants to sleep in. Turns out the only acceptable way for him to sleep today is splaying out all of his limbs in one of the most uncomfortable ways I’ve ever seen.

I’m sure it’ll change again tomorrow and then it’ll be time for another round… 😭

How transparent is moderation on Mastodon? Is it common for servers to publish a log of what gets blocked, removed, banned? Or to share who the moderators are?

I feel like part of what made things so frustrating on the birdsite was how much of an unaccountable black box the moderation process was. And part of what makes Mastodon so charming is how human it all is.

I assume admins are often sole moderators on small instances, but the two seem like different interests.
