All my open source projects are currently on hold until society figures out whether stealing is legal now. I didn't spend 10 years writing (A)GPL code to see it remixed and sold for profit without attribution, without compensation and without respecting users' rights.

I started elementary (the open source project) as a high school student. When we were building the first versions of our desktop environment, one of our core developers was in high school and his parents accompanied him to the Ubuntu Developer Summit. How many things we have today wouldn’t exist if young people weren’t allowed to participate? The cost of not creating spaces that we can safely share with young people is too high

Trickle down?

Fuck trickle down.

I don't want pennies which fall out of a billionaire's pocket and which are beneath him to pick up.

I want the full transitive value of my work so I can democratically split it with my coworkers. Y'know, the people doing actual work and contributing value.

And if we decide we need a shared assistant ("manager"), we'll hire him and negotiate his reward collectively.

Up until 2 weeks ago I believed that opting out of using my data for training would protect it. I no longer do.

Everyone knows that fines paid by companies are considered simply a cost of doing business. A probabilistic tax.

It finally dawned on me that since they need more and more data, at some point the value of using my data for training will exceed the cost of getting caught using it without/against my consent.

There's no escape unless we change the law.

Ho, ho, hold the fuck up, I understand hierarchies and their uses, I just don't see what you fuckmuppet with the skills and spine of a wet sponge do all the way up there, and the people working their asses off knowing their shit are doing down there.

I also don't see why the person responsible with their decisions isn't the one taking the consequences for their decisions if they're bad - like, isn't that 95% of your fucking job description, carrying the risk and responsibility?

CEOs of LLM companies all think "ideas" should be copied/remixed without credit or compensation. (And that pushing _expressions_ of ideas through matmul should strip copyright.)

Ironic, because what do they *do* all day? It's not like they do any work which could not be automated by an LLM.

The difference is they also own the companies while the people doing the work own nothing. If all intellectual work is automated, they'll keep the capital and we'll... have to eat them
