And don't buy a (new) 'Volvo'.

Volvo isn't that Swedish company anymore. It's now just a brand name owned by a Chinese company.

What exactly don't you understand about what I'm saying?

Are you saying that the blog article says that they don't provide a way for AI services to access their customer's mail?

Yes, it's optional. But many people, at least those around me, don't (yet) realize the dangers of AI. They see it as something fantastic.

Fastmail should protect customers from mistakes they might regret later. Just like no longer allowing unsecured ports for SMTP/IMAP.

Fastmail claims to be a privacy-focused service. That isn't evident here.

That is what I'm trying to say.

You're talking to a Fastmail user from day one here (= 25 years).

En, nog zorgelijker, vrijwel elke 'journalist' focust op dat theater en duid niet het werkelijke probleem: introduceren van verachtelijke wetgeving, die stiekem toch is doorgekomen.

For me I don't have much choice.

I create free apps for communities and such, so cost is a factor for hosting the backend API. Using a VPS is too costly, so I only have shared webhosting as an option, and then it's PHP or .NET (Core).

For now I'm sticking to PHP, because it runs on Linux, despite being a horrible language.

NB: For the app I'm using Flutter/Dart. Yeah I know it's from Google, but at least it's FOSS.

Fastmail just announced that they have added MCP support, so that AI can access your mail. How nuts is that for a 'privacy focused' email service.

So I've decided to migrate. Maybe to your service, but I have to be sure that you'll never allow AI to access my data, no matter if I want that voluntarily.

For me it's fundamentally wrong to add such access, even when it's optionally.

@fastmail
MCP? Is this an April 1 joke? Really? And you're saying that privacy is important?

That's it for me. I'm out.

A smartphone wasn't a new category when the iPhone came out.

Same with Apple Watch.

In both cases it was a far better product, and after that was a new trend and copied a lot.

So, what's innovation?

I think the architecture of the Apple Silicon is that.

We now have a laptop with a phone chip!

@randahl
If your intention was to show that the list is much shorter, then that’s a bit unfair.

Looking at what you put in the list of Jobs (including a variant of the MacBook), you could also add the following to the list of Tim Cook:

- iPhone Air
- MacBook Neo
- HomePod Mini
- Airpods Max
- AirTag
- Apple TV+
- Apple Music

Ik krijg jeuk bij beide, zowel AI maar zeker ook bij 'skills'.

In The Netherlands it's actually 100 KM between 06.00-19.00. Only outside that timeframe it's 130.
