Professor of #WorldHistory and #MENA_History. #Comics / #HistoryComics especially turn of the twentieth century from around the world as well as in conversation with #national identity and #nationalist sentiment.

When not in the classroom I'm baking/cooking or hiking and talking... always talking :)

Am I allowed a Mastodon #humblebrag? Cos this is a #beer, nay an #alcoholfreebeer thing...
@elmunc @histodons @asianamerican thank you for sharing!
I sat by an election denier on the airplane and he started poking me in the arm to be emphatic about his views on people stealing ballots secretly and the airplane was full and I couldn’t move anywhere so I started explaining the yellow fever in very great detail, all the way down to telling him about the bloody vomit that looks like coffee grounds and it worked. He stopped talking to me. The moral of this story is you can’t out-weird an academic; our toolset is too vast. #vastearlyamerica
For 600 years, from 1259 to the 1850s, the #Hanseatic League of Baltic traders owned a piece of prime London waterfront. They initially took it by perhaps medieval cannon-based influence and finally sold off to a #railway. Cannon Street railway station still sits there. It's likely one of the first places hoppy beer could be tasted in England. We put a oot of work into bringing our research to where it can be engaged with by local people. Here are a couple of our newly installed signs in the main street of #Stockton

In case anyone who has joined here doesn't know of them, we set up a form/spreadsheet for #histodons to find each other:

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1zmuH0ffMpCNOEjsReMk5iiqGwiUvhO2TtrM8QKu98SE/edit?usp=sharing

and one for #asianists to find each other here:

And now there is a nice list of lists for academic Mastodon across many fields available here:

IMNSHO images of the former president of the United States or his tweets are 100% the kind of thing CWs are meant for.

Just something to think about.

I am migrating to Mastodon!

Here is a brief introduction. I am a historian of migration and displacement in the Middle East, Russia, and Eastern Europe.

I am an Assistant Professor of Global Studies at UC Santa Barbara, where I am also Vice-Director of the Center for Middle East Studies.

My forthcoming book examines the migration and resettlement of about a million Muslim refugees from Russia's North Caucasus in the Ottoman Empire. I am working on a new project on Muslim displacement in the Middle East, the Balkans, the Caucasus, Central Asia, and South Asia.

I am looking forward to building a new community with everyone here.

#introduction I am a historian of contemporary India. I am currently working on, broadly speaking, the new histories of the third world; the making of the global south, and the shifting north/south dynamics. Would love to connect with scholars working on in this field and similar interests. #histodons #Anthropology #history #globalsouth #politicaleconomy #globaltheory #worldhistory
#Introduction: I'm a historian of gender, trauma, & medicine, specifically interested in the experiences of British & Irish women during the First World War. I teach Gender & Science at Pitt, and live for interdisciplinary conversations about how the history of science can improve research outcomes. Also a scholar of the horror genre. I live with a cat named Dr. Fintan & several garden gnomes, all of whom are cleverer than I am. #histodons #history #WW1 #academics #HistMed #Gender #Science
