The Rope and the Territory: In the final weeks before Montana statehood, a wagon boss named Harry Roberts became the first man legally hanged in Silver Bow County. His 1889 execution in booming Butte marked the grim opening chapter of a story that would play out ten times on the same gallows. Read more.

Hidden in the hills above Anaconda sits a ghost town built from rescued ruins — 19 real frontier buildings hauled from dying Montana settlements and reassembled on 52 wild acres. Part preservation, part reinvention, Gunslinger Gulch asks a haunting question: can history survive being moved?

When President Taft rolled into Billings in 1911, he called it “the center of the development of the arid west” — and he wasn’t wrong. Thousands of homesteaders, federal irrigation canals, and railroad money had turned a dusty railroad stop into a regional powerhouse. But the boom had a dark side nobody wanted to see.

Before WWII ended, the Army trained 800+ sled dogs in Montana's mountains for a secret Norway invasion. That mission was scrapped — but the dogs, the trails, and one veteran's memory lived on. Decades later, they gave birth to one of the most grueling sled dog races in America.

US strikes Iran in response to attack on ship

The U.S. has struck Iran to respond to a drone attack a day earlier on a cargo ship in the Strait of Hormuz, a provocation that President Donald Trump said violated the ceasefire. It’s the most significant test yet to an interim understanding reached a week ago by the two countries to begin working to end their months-long war. U.S. Central Command said the military struck missile and drone locations and coastal radar sites in Iran. Ebrahim Azizi, who heads the Iranian parliament’s national security commission, responded to Trump's social media post about Thursday's drone attacks. Azizi said that “this is not a violation of the ceasefire."

I would surmise a nation's futbol team is really tied to their own identity on the world stage. In that light, this is far, far beyond poor sportsmanship and straight into, well, you know... evil genocide.
