It's nice to see folks posting about getting ready for SF Pride Weekend! As I've gotten older, I've grown to dislike crowds more and more intensely so I'm enjoying it all vicariously.

Back when I was OK with crowds, I used to really enjoy Pride, back in London, and also in Paris, and still have very happy memories of those!

We know this is a completely new concept for many people, since traditionally the platform and the service provider are one and the same. This choice is what makes Mastodon different from existing social networks, but it also presents a unique onboarding challenge. To make this step easier, we now have a default sign-up option that works with a server we operate. If you wish to leave or join a different server, you can do so at any time.

Bluesky is trending on the birdsite - PLEASE PLEASE look at the terms of service and their privacy policy before you accept that invite from a friend.
I know it's exciting and people are jumping on that bandwagon but I personally don't feel good about this.. if after you read the TOS and privacy you still want to participate at least you'll know ahead of time!

The TOS of #BlueSky read like the exact same surveillance bs that brought us into this mess. This sounds like a nightmare regarding privacy, data security, and ownership of your content. (Also, if you’re into eating the rich, that’s not exactly it… 😉) It’s basically against everything I value when it comes to the Open Web.

So I’ve decided to not sign up for BlueSky for now. I didn’t leave Twitter just to sign up for the next longtermist’s “decentralized” silo.
