4. NONE of these companies responded. It appears that they are planning to pocket the money.

So far only two companies have announced plans to offer consumers refunds or discounts: FedEx and Costco.

Consumers paid for Trump’s illegal tariffs. These companies may profit.

President Trump imposed sweeping global tariffs during his first year as president.

You can read all about this tool which is entirely open source and on a MIT license - although I would prefer it to be on GPLv3. It is a framework that you can engage with using any chat platform - mastodon, signal, telegram etc, between you and this tool to have work on your behalf on things that matter to you.

The need for AI standards convergence

In July 2025, the Australian Government's Digital Transformation Agency, released the "Australian Government AI technical standard" version 1. This is meant for the Australian public sector/agencies. The 102-page document sets a comprehensive framework for public agencies when adopting AI to ensure that it is done safely and ethically. This standard outlines a structured AI system lifecycle which are set up as three core phases:…

The story is not that there are two conflicting versions of what happened.
The story is that the federal government is lying about what happened.
There is plenty of evidence.
Your job, our job, is to sift that evidence and describe what actually happened ffs.

Can I ask a favour?

If you see someone who is asking for help using this place, and if no one else is helping them, could you tag me into the conversation and/or link to my website https://fedi.tips?

I'm trying to provide unofficial tech support for people using Mastodon and the wider Fediverse. I'm especially keen to help new people who want easy-to-understand advice, but they won't see me and I won't see them unless someone tags me.

Thanks 🙏

An unofficial guide to using Mastodon and the Fediverse

ARINC SelfServ vMUSE devices are down in airports in EU, they do self service check in. They’re connected to navAviNet aka ARINC Ground Network, managed by Collins Aerospace, who are owned by RTX.

An attacker got onto to the shared network.

Happy DDoS-a-Versary to me. Today's Mirai-based botnets are now launching attacks that are 20x the size of that first big Mirai attack.

Not long after I published that story, the Mirai botmasters turned up the heat and got me evicted from Akamai's network. I remember the next day interviewing different DDoS protection companies about their pricing and having to pick my jaw up off the floor each time. Many thanks to Akamai for all the attacks that they very much did protect me from over the years. And also thanks again to Google Shield for helping to keep my little site online ever since.

BTW, that Sept. 2016 attack, and the quick leaking of the botnet's source code by its 20-something overlords led me to pretty much cancel everything and spend 24/7 the next four months tracking these guys down. As I did that, I kept interviewing people who had just talked to the FBI. I published the longest story I'd ever written on Jan. 18, 2017, the same day the FBI raided the homes of the alleged authors. Who ended up being convicted and sentenced to helping the FBI catch cybercriminals, which is a really cool and rare success story.
