The Vim original author Bram Moolenaar has passed away.

I think Vim is a kind of piece of software that I found fabulous when I first migrated to Linux.

At first I had to deal with Vi, but I quickly discovered #Vim which was a lot more powerful.

Message from the family of Bram Moolenaar

It has begun. LLM used in cyberattack (breaking defences). Demonstration of capability. Does that mean that we're done now? No, not yet. "GPT-4 does not get distracted, does not get tired, does not have other duties, and is always available" https://arxiv.org/pdf/2307.15008.pdf
Welcome to Wayland.social: the successor to X.com.

BUYOUT NEWS: The beleaguered and heavily indebted social network formerly known as "Twitter" is acquired by the X Org Foundation, a 501(c)3 scientific charity

"Fixing Twitter will be easier than finishing Wayland," said a spokesdroid

X vs XOrg 😂

This is a credible proposal for DRM for websites in general. It would enable unbeatable adblock-blocking. It would prevent user customization for not just convenience but also accessibility.

I do not say this lightly: Enabling the forfeiture of control over the browsing experience is a fundamentally evil idea that must be rejected now, as it has been in the past, and we must remain vigilant against its reemergence in the future.

#NewMax

De Vries out, Riccardo in at AlphaTauri effectively immediately. Woah. #formula1 #f1

Edit: Personal thought: they need to replace Checo and unsure who it should be since comparing Riccardo in a Sim and Yuki in an actual car is super different. Solution? Put them in the same car and compare notes. If one is better and Checo still sucks by years end, whoever won that test gets the seat next to max at RB.

Furthering the evolution of CentOS Stream

As the CentOS Stream community grows and the enterprise software world tackles new dynamics, we want to sharpen our focus on CentOS Stream as the backbone of enterprise Linux innovation. We are continuing our investment in and increasing our commitment to CentOS Stream. CentOS Stream will now be the sole repository for public RHEL-related source code releases.

This is such an on-point review of #Threads from Fast Company.

"How can I see what’s the latest in the world when the only thing I can read through is a Cobb salad of random thoughts lost in the fabric of spacetime?"

I couldn't wait to get off of Threads after just one minute. It felt like someone rebooted the social media universe and every worn out trope, tired meme, and pointless piece of engagement porn from the past three years came blaring off the screen at the same time when the universe came back online.

It was vertigo inducing. It made me question the judgement of anyone who was there putting in obvious effort to carve out a corner for themselves on such an on brand half-baked Meta platform. Really? You actually want some of this??

It felt like one of those old Internet chat rooms that didn't limit the number of people who could be in chat at the same time and there were thousands of people trying to talk at the same time.
