Interesting article about how Zyxel refuses to patch exploited vulnerabilities in their end-of-life routers. Researchers found 2 critical vulnerabilities with over 1,500 devices exposed online! The solution? Buy a new router.

#DeepSeek, the new #AI model that is severely disrupting the market, technologically and financially, is apparently also a bit more vulnerable to jailbreaks than big models like #chatgpt. Can't have it all I guess.

Workers at #Bethesda parent company strike over remote work policies. Members of #ZeniMax Workers United are going on strike for one day over remote work and outsourcing policies. I continue to not understand the push for return to office. Everyone knows it's an attempt to get employees to quit. A study shows there's no impact on a company's bottom line. The only difference is around job satisfaction, where #RTO has a statistically significant negative effect.
Return to office mandates do no favors to anyone, their mental health, nor the environment. As a society, we should be looking at the bigger picture and break away from these inefficient and detrimental ancient business practices that precede the Internet.
The future of effective collaboration is remote.

The new platform Bluesky, another alternative to the bird site, has been gaining a lot of popularity recently. I keep hearing millions of new active users flocking over to the platform.
However, they are also currently not in compliance with the EU Digital Services Act 🫣. This might sound like a big deal; however they aren't big enough yet to qualify as a "very large online platform" by EU regulators yet. Also, looks like the violation is about information disclosure, so hopefully a quick fix for the team.

LinkedIn hit with €310M ($335M) fine by Irish privacy regulators for GDPR violations related to their ad tracking practices. The platform failed to obtain proper user consent and transparency for behavioral advertising.
🇪🇺 The tech giant has 3 months to bring European operations into compliance. The case originated from a 2018 complaint by digital rights group La Quadrature Du Net in France.
LinkedIn maintains they were GDPR-compliant but will adjust practices to meet regulators' requirements.
I find it odd that Ireland spends millions to try to protect Apple from paying billions in taxes, but will hit LinkedIn with a GDPR fine.

Recent reports suggest a dark money network, allegedly linked to Elon Musk, is behind a campaign called "Progress 2028." This initiative appears to spread misleading information about Vice President Kamala Harris's positions.
As we approach the 2024 election, it's crucial to verify information from multiple reliable sources. Disinformation campaigns can come from unexpected places, even tech figures.
Stay informed, fact-check, and make your voice heard at the polls.
