Interested in Science/Technology, Bonsai, Language learning, and have some ambitions to eventually to learn the guitar if I ever stop procrastinating. I will repost (retoot) political posts and social issues from time to time. Favoriting doesn't constitute endorsement, will follow people back.

Most of my toots, including replies, will auto-delete in about 1 month unless I decide otherwise (usually bonsai posts).

Found a nice potential bonsai tree at a local Walmart posing as small Christmas tree a few days ago. It's nice to get something with potential and not have to pay the bonsai tax.

The base of the Trunk starts off at about 1.5 in at the soil level and then has a nice natural taper to about an inch around 6 in up the trunk.

The tree was nice and health and unlike many that are quickly sold during the holidays, was kept outside in the sun fully acclimated to outdoor weather and watered regularly.

Haven't done anything to it yet, will allow it to further adapt to it's new location and in the early spring probably try to find the root flare and reduce the base first (and maybe see how much bonsai soil I can get around it without removing too much of the root ball, following the rule of thirds).

Was watering some plants outside today and saw a spider among the leaves of one of my dogwood trees. It was so green that originally I though it was the young grasshopper I spotted the other day. But as I got closer I noticed that it definitely had eight legs.

Some research shows that its a Peucetia viridans or a Green Lynx spider. I really like how once I zoomed in the photo, to make the spider more pronounced, you can see it appears that it has a single strand of spider web attached to it's front leg possibly being used to hunt its next meal.

Today is just a wet and miserable day. It's one of those days where it's not fully raining but just has water constantly suspended in the air making everything wet. However it does have one positive benefit, it's making my roses, which are just now starting to bud out, look amazing.

Trying something new with a bonsai pot that was given to me for Christmas and a few Aralias I grew from cuttings.

The plants are still very young but will have plenty of room to grow. It will need to be pruned and trained once they become established.

Picked some of my heirloom roses earlier today. It's so late in the year that I'm surprised they had a chance to bloom. But with the unseasonable warm weather the past few weeks some plants are putting off hibernating a little longer than normal..

Normally I'm a big believer of allowing them to stay on the bush and enjoying them live but with winter coming I wanted to preserve them.

I'm neither a expert gardner nor a photographer but still wanted to share.
