@monkeydom Probably because the other movie based on a novel by Andy Weir was called The Martian and they wanted people to connect them. Although even then, they ruined it by adding the useless subtitle: Der Marsianer: Rettet Mark Watney.
@codinghorror If you have a million and give a million people $1 each, 100% of it is spent. If you give a thousand people $1000 each, probably most if not all of it is spent. If you give one person all of the money, they’ll most likely spent some of it and either save or invest the rest in shares or some other unproductive hoarding. Even more so if the person already has more money than they could ever spend.
So, even for purely economic reasons, giving to those in need is the way to go.
@fesshole 1. Have some kids yourself. That’s probably not what you want, which is fine, I’m just listing options.
2. Find new friends. Chances are, most of your old ones are either jealous of your childfree life (pity their kids) or think they have less in common with you, too.
3. Enjoy the fact that you get to have their kids at their best moments and can dump them on the parents whenever they stress you. Be the cool aunt or uncle, give them caffeinated beverages and noisy toys.

Petition to rename every city dumpster storage to “Donald Trump Memorial Dumpster Storage” and be set on fire on President’s Day. Alternatively, rename the sewage treatment plants. #trumpsterfire
@karaswisher making money is not the point anymore. Bezos already has more money than he could ever spend.
The problem for the 0.1% is now to keep the general public ignorant enough, so they don’t come for the ones that actually destroy society. As long as the paper keeps people from picking up pitchforks and torches, it can bleed money all it wants. Consider this: if the Post loses 100 million per year for 100 years, Bezos would still be richer in the end on interest alone.
@fesshole Either the exam tests you on important skills or it’s useless anyway. So, if it’s the former and you fail on the job, good luck with unemployment and potentially lawsuits. If you succeed on the job, who cares about an exam?

I decided to avoid travel to the US in 2002 when the requirement for ten fingerprints became the rule. I considered that excessive, especially given the lax to non-existent privacy laws granted even to US citizens, let alone visitors.

Nothing in the last 24 years has convinced me that this decision was unreasonable. The current state of affairs only underscores that.
