Starflower (Trientalis borealis) is blooming

Note how the leaves are whorled (whorled means >2 leaves (or branches) around the same spot on the stem - starflower can have 5-9) and the flowers have 7 petals, which is unusual. Both the leaves and flowers look like stars!

Last week I finally found something I've always wanted to photograph - the incredible nymph of the oribatid mite genus Cepheus.

These little beauties retain their old exoskeletons on their back every time they moult, which then build up as protective ornamental rings! Each ring you see on its back here represents one moulting event.

Not wanting “algorithms” on mastodon’s feed because TWTR uses coersive algorithms is like not wanting to use any math because capitalism uses math.

Stop conflating bad, manipulative use of algorithms w/the general use of (open/visible) algorithms for personal control over data you see.

Chronological display IS AN ALGORITHM.

Mastodon’s feed ISN’T JUST CHRONOLOGY (it has filters, algos re boost freq, etc).

Mastodon’s feed could be a LOT better.
