I know a little about a lot and a lot about a little.
@brewski @TheWarOnCars I mean Mamdani pretty explicitly campaigned on a platform of expanding and bolstering public transit within the city, whereas the point that was most discussed by Cuomo was increasing police presence on the subway. Cuomo's focus betrays his and his wealthy backers' perspective—they have property outside city limits, get there by driving and want nothing less than unsupervised interactions with working class New Yorkers. It literally all goes back to class.
The way NYC mayoral candidates are interviewed on Israel, you'd think the tri-state area was in the Levant. Tensions with Jersey are at an all-time high, reports claim that they're three weeks away from developing a relevant sports team.
@ErikJonker For an aspiring new dictator, you'd think Trump would muster more panache for things like this. I mean, we've been flying fighter jets over football stadiums for decades and this is his idea of a Roman triumph? You hate to see dystopia manifest in such a drab way.
@mls14 @molly0xfff The party's steady shift to to center-right in everything but cultural issues is ammo enough to pepper them with suspicion, no misrepresentative headlines needed. I'm not yet radical enough to say the Democratic Party's done for as a platform for leftist political action, but we can't pretend there aren't issues.
@molly0xfff I only listen to WSJ for their reporting on the economy. The one thing I trust media backed by the wealthy to speak accurately about is the same system that funds them.

BTW really loving the updates from #Minnesota. they showed out to #NoKings even though Indivisible cancelled the event.

this is important.

a mostly white, suburban crowd decided they didn’t need permission to protest fascism. minnesotans decided the moment was more important than the fear of fascist #MAGA #terrorism.

to those of you who carp about the comforts of the hegemonic majority: if not the hegemons, who?

this is what a point of sociological inflection looks like.

@reflex @jupiter @DesertTrail We have a nation in which the largest media sources are operated by and embedded with the same oppressor class we've been discussing. What rules can we work by without utilizing subversion? Truth is useless if it cannot be received.
@reflex @jupiter @DesertTrail With what means can those ideas be removed? As it stands, you have to secure political capital. I don't understand what you're suggesting.
@reflex @jupiter @DesertTrail I couldn't fit it all in one post, but I want to clarify. This discussion began with a suggestion to optimize visibility. As things stand now, any attempt at sparking revolution would end in sore anguish. There has been change that has stood up against terrible odds, but we are talking about a nation whose military budget dwarfs anything else in history. To create positions in which powerful change can be enacted, we have to foster community.
@reflex @jupiter @DesertTrail I'm tating that there's no reason why class origin should be the end-all be-all. How do you propose that work begin without including them in the conversation rather than lecturing to them? I'm not disagreeing with you as their place as oppressors, I suggest that approaching them with a nuanced message could be more effective. It's fucked up that the oppressed have to make the case for the end to oppression, but frame it without gradient will guarantee failure.
