This is wild, but also a window into where we may well be heading more broadly

📣 registration for the rainbowR conference is now live 🎉

Our inaugural virtual conference, Feb 25th-26th, will bring together LGBTQIA+ users of R, and their allies, to promote their work and foster connections amongst the community.

The conference is for anyone interested in R and/or analysing data to understand LGBTQ+ issues. The majority of speakers and workshop leaders are LGBTQ+, but you do not have to be LGBTQ+ to attend.

A really interesting (and gloriously garish!) post about what syntax highlighting should and shouldn't do. I’m going to try living with the minimal, comments-forward style for a while and see how I get on with it.

There didn't seem to be an Alabaster theme for @panic's Nova editor, so I've put one together – users of the app will find it in the Themes section of the extension library now

It is with great sadness that I am doing what I would once have thought unthinkable. Following Salim Abdool Karim's superb Faraday Lecture 10 days ago, i have decided to return my own Faraday prize, awarded in 2014.

The silence of the Royal Society in the face of Elon Musk's rampage (a member of the RS since 2018) across US science is incomprehensible to me.

We must all draw the line somewhere in the face of authoritarian attacks and this is mine.
