@bigzaphod @Iconfactory Hey I think I uploaded the reference photo “late” and mine never got done. But I did pay for a Pixel Portrait as a part of the Tapestry Kickstarter. Can someone still do mine without needing to pay again?
@nwd @bigzaphod Write to us at webmaster@iconfactory.com with the info you used during the Kickstarter and we’ll try and find your info. If we owe you one we’ll certainly get it done. 👍
@bigzaphod @Iconfactory what if you are the world's richest company and desperately need a second opinion on the design of all of your operating system icons?

@Eggfreckles @bigzaphod @Iconfactory They would be amazing at that! :)

Amazing people as well as talented and experienced.

@bigzaphod @Iconfactory *gosh* I wish I was decision maker for this at my business, we’re doing a redesign and it’s uh, not looking good to me at *all* but it’s already getting put on printed materials so I think it’s locked in now unfortunately lol
We’re a roofing company and it looks to me like we rebranded to a NASCAR team lmao
@modulusshift @Iconfactory just drop a few links to our services page https://iconfactory.com/services into emails randomly here and there and maybe someone will get the hint.... 😂

Might I suggest adding the #fedihire and #getfedihired hashtags to your post?

There was just a survey released (https://www.writtenwordmedia.com/we-asked-indie-authors-how-2025-is-going-heres-what-they-said/) showing authors, particularly indie authors, being wary of AI. I wonder if designing author logos and marketing artwork for materials like swag, buttons, stickers, etc, might be a tiny help, or even art-ifying AI-generated logos & marketing materials for indie authors. Good art is hard to find especially staying away form AI, from an author perspective!

How Indie Authors Are Doing in 2025: Mid-Year Survey Results - Written Word Media

0 0 0 0At Written Word Media, we believe that supporting authors starts with understanding them, really understanding them. That’s why we didn’t wait until year’s end to check in. This spring, we launched our 2025 Mid-Year Author Sentiment Survey to take the pulse of the indie author community. We asked writers across all income […]

Do what you have to do. But as an indie author, and as a contributor to an online university, if AI is involved in process, or composition, or generation I have to reject it completely. I want to work with people who delight in the work of their own hands and their own minds. This is my opinion and preference.

@FirstFish @bigzaphod @Iconfactory

I mean, I agree. I don’t want to use AI at all, and I’m careful about what I use as a result, also as an indie author.

For this idea, I was thinking it might be beneficial for artists who do want or need to expand, or for authors who first mocked something up with AI but want to move away from AI while keeping certain elements or ideas from their previous mock up or AI “art”.

@skaeth @bigzaphod @Iconfactory
For the sake of discussion, let me say that I hear you. I do have good friends, colleagues, and partners in writing groups who use AI for writing in their world building and character generation and even plot development, and also in editing to reword entire scenes three or four ways to find different ways of saying things. Is this useful? Yes. And it still makes me cringe, me personally. I cannot do it, and I cannot collaborate with them. Do I associate with them in professional spaces and seek to help them be better writers? Sure. Will I comment on which AI paragraph sounds better? No. *sigh

Will I buy their books when they are published, since I know how they were made? I am not sure. I cringe. I will not read them. But I am not "against" the people. *shrug

@skaeth @bigzaphod @Iconfactory

And I feel even more strongly about AI "art". This discussion is just to put a "face" on the poll you mentioned. It doesn't matter how useful a tool is if it destroys your ability to connect with your audience and ruins your reputation in your chosen field. If indie spaces are moving toward "AI free", think very carefully.

@FirstFish

I, personally, absolutely agree with you. I avoid AI as much as possible-- I don't use it for any aspect of my writing or publishing process. I pay a real artist for my covers and he's absolutely worth the money.

I also know the IconFactory doesn't use AI art and feels strongly about it. I was just thinking it might open up another circle of potential clients, and perhaps those people would continue to use artists instead of AI, who knows?

@skaeth IconFactory for the win! Let's get them some Indie Authors to put their artists to work.
@FirstFish Here’s hoping! I can’t spread the word much, but I do what I can!

@bigzaphod @Iconfactory I'm not a company, but I've been thinking about getting a custom logo made for my open access "Intro to HCI" slides. I currently have this overly complex monochrome icon for it: https://fietkau.science/teaching#showcases

Do y'all do tiny projects for individuals? I was gonna put 100€ into this out of pocket, maaaybe 200€. Would an agency consider that worth dealing with?

I guess "the worst they can say is no" (or ghost me 😂) but it'd be cool to get someone through Fedi rather than Fiverr.

@julian @Iconfactory sure we have no problem doing projects for individuals - just drop an email to design@iconfactory.com with what you need and a budget!
