#3dprinting folks, maybe you like this project. An open source printer.
For anyone who missed it, here is a playlist of all the Blender conference videos from this year: https://yewtu.be/playlist?list=PLa1F2ddGya_84ye1JAvIGh0Yp7utEKZI_
Some great #Blender users to follow:
π @EosFoxx - "Hey I'm a professional 3D animator and rigger for games. (happily full employed) . I love animation, rigging. Favorite Weapon of choice: Blender #b3d"
π @Smoke - "Your friendly local involuntary-brain-transplant victim. All content produced on open-source hardware and software."
π @tomo - "Japanese Blender User"
If you'd like to suggest someone to be featured here, please let me know!
So I picked up some clay to try my hand at physical sculpture. My first thoughts are:
- This is really fun, and scratches a part of my brain digital sculpting doesn't.
- Real clay is time consuming to work with! (There's no undo or symmetry, who knew?)
- There's obvious value to physical sculpting. Forms are in many ways easier to find and notice.
Things I've learned about Mastodon this week:
1. Photo captions are read by screenreaders for people who have impaired vision. The more descriptive you make them, the more people can appreciate your post.
2. Hashtags should be "camel style" which means you capitalize each word in the tag - this enables screen readers to identify different words in the tag,
3. Reblogging boosts posts and favourites do not.
4. Hashtags are way more important here than on the birdsite.
I rely heavily on process automation to manage communities at scale. One of my favorite 'no-code' tools for this is the open source #n8n (n8n.io) that connects different APIs.
The example below is for the 'featured row' on @blenderartists - once we have selected a candidate we put a link on a spreadsheet. This tasks picks up the artwork, crops it as it would appear on the site and sends a forum DM to the user so they have a chance to update their work in time.
Hey animators! π @pablovazquez and @fsiddi just launched https://anima.to/, a tribute to the animation community. Come aboard!
