"So many people who used to work for wages instead started businesses that there was less competition for wage work, and overall wages in villages rose as a result."

The 12-year #BasicIncome pilot in Kenya is resulting in tons of new businesses, higher wages, and happier less-stressed out people.

Pretty stunning to view some of these DAGs, especially GitLabs massive project!

In 2020, the emergence of COVID-19 gave us a stark, terrifying, but very valuable lesson in how thin our collective values are once push comes to shove. Within WEEKS after lockdowns started, the op-ed class repeatedly suggested that

- We should suspend child labor laws (they claimed, incorrectly, that children weren't harmed by COVID)

- The elderly have already lived long enough and should be willing to die now to help the economy.

- The weak and compromised should be regarded as expendable.

Is ChatGPT the ultimate TL;DR? If we think of large language models as summary engines, then writing becomes an important way of training the Q&A agents that site underneath AI chats.

Technically, identifying the content closest to the question through its embedding vector, and using that content to drive answers will be more important than writing structured documentation. It's just more efficient to fill the users' gaps.

This is why social media should be owned by all of us:

4 days ago, Musk promoted antisemitism in a tweet, and Ron DeSantis does not dare condemn it, but instead tries to claim he has not seen the tweet which is all over the mainstream media.

Think about that: A candidate for president does not dare to critizise a businessman, because that businessman controls the social media site used in his political campaign.

I have said it before: Mastodon is how we fight back.

When you make fun of someone's voice, weight, appearance or gender because you disagree with their politics or world view, you send one clear message:

The only reason you don’t make fun of us for the same thing is because we share an opinion.

And that's not okay.

Are you using dbt?

I'm looking to learn more about the scale of dbt projects and the review process for modeling changes.

Can you answer 9 questions about your dbt usage?
(they're all multiple choice - yay!)

OpenAI's latest feature enabling custom GPTs is going to open the door for a lot of bespoke assistants that can be built in lightening time. Our team wants to migrate our JS testing framework from Cypress to Playwright because of stability issues with Cypress. Normally that would mean rewriting a lot of tests, which is a bit of drudgery. I joked that we should have the tests rewritten by AntonGPT (we have two Anton's on the team), but with OpenAI I was able to create AntonGPT in about 30 minutes
