Closing hospitals to fund concentration camps.
That’s it. That’s what it boils down to.
Fredy Perlman in "Anti-Semitism and the Beirut Pogrom" (August 1982):
"It's as if the experience of being a victim gave exemption from human solidarity, as if it gave special powers, as if it gave a license to kill."
England, yesterday:
Reverend Sue Parfitt was taking part in a protest by sitting SILENTLY near a statue of Mahatma Gandhi and holding A CARDBOARD SIGN with the words ‘I oppose genocide. I support Palestine Action.’
The peaceful protest resulted in an arrest by police and charges punishable by up to 14 years in prison.
The next time a politician claims we can’t house the homeless, feed the starving or give medical care to the poor…. remember that they were able to build a concentration camp in 8 days.
We could provide for everyone if we wanted to, but instead we’re spending the money on fascist facilities and cutting taxes for the wealthy.

You know those guys from school who seemed like they’d make a really awful cop? Those guys are about to get paid by you to get grossly inadequate training, get kitted out in body armor you paid for, and then turned loose on you with no oversight. SCOTUS has ruled you can’t sue the agents themselves, and the guy running the show is immune from prosecution and most judicial review.
Protests are gonna get sporty very quickly.
Hello Americans on Mastodon, I know we don't feel like there's much to celebrate this July 4th. It's been a rough several years.
So I want to talk about how we're making history right now.
"I don't ever wanna disappoint my fans, and especially in Philadelphia. Y'all mean too much to me. There's absolutely no way that I could perform across a picket line and pick up money when I know that people are out there fighting for a living wage."

When I was younger I used to read science fiction, some which predicted a post scarcity world where we’d cured diseases and aging while others predicted technology powered dystopian police states.
When you see a budget with $4B for curing cancer and $170B for mass deportations & detention centers, it’s clear which future America has chosen.
Happy 4th of July.
