Went snowshoeing along the Peter’s Kill in Minnewaska State Park, yesterday. We were virtually the only people there, very serene. Definitely a winter wonderland ❄️ Second year using my MSR Lightning Ascent snowshoes, still very lightweight with good traction: https://www.rei.com/product/160736/msr-lightning-ascent-snowshoes-mens

While you’re at your family holiday gathering you can also mitigate COVID risk by:

1️⃣ Increasing ventilation by opening windows (if warm enough)

2️⃣ Having HEPA filters or CR boxes

3️⃣ Organizing outdoor activities

4️⃣ Wearing an N95 mask when going out to crowded public spaces

I love peanut butter. I also love peanut butter and chocolate. Therefore, Reese's are my favorite candy. So when I heard that they were now selling factory-direct Reese's that hadn't been sitting around in a warehouse for a year, I got really excited. My package just arrived and I can confirm that they are VERY delicious. Chocolate is firm and crunchy, peanut butter is creamy and not grainy. I've had other fancy pb cup brands but none are as good as this. A must buy!

I took a few minutes to write up some notes on how Mastodon is different from Twitter for some friends: https://johnresig.com/blog/twitter-mastodon/ Maybe this can be useful to you all, as well? (Although I suspect that if you're already on Mastodon it's a bit preaching-to-the-choir.) I'm excited to become more active in this community!

If you're looking for a fun (but expensive) gift for a Star Wars + Japanese art lover in your life, you probably can't do better than this officially-licensed traditional woodblock print of Darth Maul that just came up at auction:

An update on the print photography. I switched to using a Canon EOS M, outputting the images in RAW format and feeding them into Lightroom. I built the color profile by converting one base images to DNG and putting it into ColorChecker (but this only needs to be done once).

The final result is MUCH better than before. The color feels much closer to reality, whereas before it was a much yellower tone. It's not quite as simple as I hoped for but I'm happy with the result. Before/after below.

I’m still amazed at how good nighttime photos look with a 10s exposure on my iPhone 13 mini.

Got a copy of the board game Gloomhaven in the mail last night, bought a used copy off of a seller on BoardGameGeek.com. For folks that haven't played it before (I've only played the standalone Gloomhaven: Jaws of the Lion, which I loved), it's sort of like a board game version of D&D combat, but more predictable, fun to get into, and lots of good strategy (with no DM required). Based upon the number of friends who've sunk hundreds of hours into the game, I can't wait to play it!

Paprika App is currently having their annual Black Friday sale - their apps are 40-50% off. I can't recommend this app enough, I use it for all of my recipe organization, meal planning, and grocery shopping, it's phenomenal! It has built-in syncing so I can keep it up-to-date on all my devices, and even while shopping. If you cook/grocery shop a lot this really is a must-have.

From a couple weeks ago, Nell and I went hiking in an area of Mohonk Preserve called The Lost City. The weather was beautiful, which was especially surprising for November! We come back here frequently, although I suspect the next time may be on snowshoes! There are these giant rock formations and large cliffs, with lots of dwarf pitch pines, which are exceptionally rare. There are usually a bunch of climbers scaling the cliffs, but we like to stay to hiking 😄
