The perfect playlist for your morning walk, weekend fun, and everything in between - compiled by my daughter on our cross-country dive, courtesy of everyone we met along the way. It’s like a gorgeous tapestry of this country.

Sharing recommendations from my colleagues - students, and faculty for #blackhistorymonth

Some cool recs here, including the book 'The Black Guy Dies First: Black Horror Cinema from Fodder to Oscar' by Robin Means Coleman and Mark H. Harris. Adding to 'must reads.'

I can't stop looking at this beautiful soul's work. You learn so much about a person through their lens on the world. Tyre Nichol's photos, his take on the world, his gentleness, and the beauty he captured with his lens are breathtaking and heartbreaking. I will not watch the video but, instead, enjoy this beauty.

“At least 12 men knew what a shitty man Michael Haight was, that he was abusive, that he had a gun, that he was capable of hurting or killing his family. Maybe my math is off. Maybe fewer men knew. Maybe more did.”
Read this post by @gabrielleblair she captures the rage many of us feel.

He Murdered His Whole Family. Who Will Be Held Accountable?

I’m very angry. I will probably cuss a lot in the newsletter. I’m going to talk about abuse and murder and misogyny and other horrible things. Skip it if you need to.

Dr. Erika López Prater showed a Painting of the Prophet Muhammad to her global art history class and lost her job.

The painting is in one of the earliest Islamic illustrated histories of the world, “A Compendium of Chronicles,” written during the 14th century by Rashid-al-Din (1247-1318).

The painting shows a winged and crowned Angel Gabriel pointing at the Prophet Muhammad and delivering to him the first Quranic revelation.

A Hamline Adjunct Showed a Painting of the Prophet Muhammad. She Lost Her Job.

After an outcry over the art history class by Muslim students, Hamline University officials said the incident was Islamophobic. But many scholars say the work is a masterpiece.

A perfectly relaxing Sunday morning with an exquisite, magical book. I highly recommend Harry’s Trees by Jon Cohen.

A perfect response from Gisele Fetterman and a wonderful example of conscious consumerism.

"You’ve got to invest in the world, you’ve got to read, you’ve got to go to art galleries, you’ve got to find out the names of plants. You’ve got to start to love the world and know about the whole genius of the human race. We’re amazing people."
