Because I'm perfectly willing to try any alternative to the bird site, I tried Hive.
I only checked it out for about a minute, but it's not for me. It feels a lot like Instagram. Photo-first, not text first.
I don't want to be inundated with selfies.
Coming from the bird site, I freely admit the idea of the Fediverse was super confusing and weird. But now that I've had some time to understand it, I'm a full-on evangelist.
Put simply: if you don't like the moderation rules on your server, find a different one! Or one that caters to your interests/career/social group. Or roll your own.
They talk to each other, so get comfortable where you are!
