Going long: Viruses linger with lasting impact
Herpes, HIV, Epstein-Barr and other viruses hang around, causing potential long-term health woes. Should ‘long COVID’ surprise us?
Millions of Americans infected by the new coronavirus, SARS-CoV-2, are now dealing with its post-acute sequelae, or PASC, mostly known as long COVID, the latest long-term condition to stem from a virus.

Going long: Viruses linger with lasting impact

We know they’re common and annoying, and in the immunocompromised or the unlucky, sometimes deadly. But three years after COVID-19 rocked the world, are we now learning viruses are more of a threat than we imagined? Do they all “go long”?

Fred Hutch

Stating the obvious about #covid19 , but some times the obvious must be spelled out:

Reinfection = Boosting of Antibodies+ Immune damage
Re-vaccination = Boosting of Antibodies without Immune damage

If the *additive* immune damage from each reinfection does not decline to zero with successive reinfections, the *cumulative* immune damage will increase over time. Therefore, the apparent steady state of the last year will unravel as we stop revaccinating.

Is this a gamble one wants to take?

Extra food stamp benefits enacted by Congress at the height of the pandemic ended this week, even as grocery prices surge.

The average food stamp benefit will come to about $6 per person per day.

Need I remind you that we passed a record $857 billion defense bill last year?

Mass incarceration is a policy choice. Inequality is a policy choice. Insulin rationing is a policy choice. Climate disintegration is a policy choice. Poverty is a policy choice. Billionaire tax loopholes are a policy choice.

Make no mistake: We have the power to change things.

For those of us still mourning the loss of #TerryPrachett, it appears we have twenty new short stories to devour (originally published under a pseudonym).

What Not to Ask Me About My Long COVID — The Atlantic

A brief guide

In the last 5 years I’ve seen them diminish our right to protest, to the point you can possibly be charged with a felony and if convicted you will lose your voting privileges. As a part of removing protest options, they also made being unhoused and sleeping on public land illegal. Then they took our right to bodily autonomy. Today they made drag shows illegal and in such a way and so broad that cosplay and being trans in public can be included. Next is insurance companies that cover trans healthcare anywhere will be denied state Medicaid contracts

Pay attention it affects us all this is real, this is TN. Everyone needs to be demanding trans rights are human rights. Women’s rights are human rights

Banning ideas and authors is not a ‘culture war’ – it’s fascism

The media’s framing of measures like Florida’s African American studies ban is a dangerous falsification of reality
