''Environmentalists fear production of plastic will continue increasing as the world quits oil and gas and fossil fuel companies pivot to plastic to sustain their profits.'' @NewYorkTimes

Fossil fuel companies are opposed to a global plastics treaty!

The Plastic Problem

It’s warming the planet and driving biodiversity loss. This year will be key to negotiating a global treaty to curb its impact.

I think the biggest mass scam perpetuated on the human population has to have been plastic recycling:

Billions of tons of plastic have been made of the past decades, and much of it is becoming trash and litter, finds the first analysist of the issue.

We used to say plastic is all over, that even fish and other marine animals could mistakenly consume bits of it, we never gave much thought about it. Now we are saying plastic is flowing in our blood vessels and is stuck deep in our lungs, sadly we are still not bothered 🥺!
During observer surveys of #Arctic floating #plastic debris I always wondered what happens with #plastic debris during sea ice growth 🧐. Here‘s a clue from a local pond 😉: part of it is incorporated into the ice matrix, but a lot is sticking out. Same applied to a glass bottle.
Better taste...maybe, the rest is 💩
@NatureMC shouldn't we therefore act fast to stop anymore plastic pollution in our environment now that we know it can be impossible to remove microplastics in the soil, water, air and now in our bodies.
The plastics treaty would not be sufficient if it will not provide financing for restoration of environments degraded by plastic. Plastic accumulating and already in the environment needs to be removed, every bit of it, including microplastics. #plasticpollution

@jameswakibia There's a video about it, but it's in Finnish.

Says the bottles are flattened, sorted (colour, clear), melted and cleaned, and made into pellets which can then be made into new products (bottles, meat packaging, etc). Says theoretically can go on forever without loss. In practice, only clear is continuously recycled. Coloured goes to making some bands for e.g. wood industry.

Jopa 92 prosenttia pulloista palautuu kauppaan – miksi palautuspullot ovat kierrätysmenestys?

Miksi muovipullo kiertää niin tehokkaasti?

@TraciInFinland how many times can, say a plastic bottle, be recycled and what happens if it cannot be recycled into the same product?
@pineconeclare we may never be able to completely clean all the plastic we are tossing into the planet, not that we are even trying!
