Four-speckled Hover Fly (Dioprosopa clavata) - nice when they land and you can get an identification.
I am having this - I worked hard for it and got it right ๐ โค๏ธ ๐ ๐ช
Beautiful blue sky and clean air for a change. Cool before the next heat wave strikes.
A de Havilland Canada Beaver floatplane is descending to land on the lake.
I love solid old planes.

One of my clients yesterday infodumped to me about orcas.
It was fascinating! They had been on a trip to Alaska where they did things like learn about forests (ALSO COOL), and glaciers (literally cool), and, apparently, whales.
I did not know that orca society is matriarchal and matrilineal. The naturalist who talked to them about whales called all of the male whales "Bubba". This is because the grandmother whales are the ones who do most of the hunting, and when male whales are born, they don't hunt. They never hunt. Their mothers feed them until they die. (The mothers, I mean.)
So the male whales have a much shorter lifespan because they won't get fed after their bio moms die. The grandmothers can live to 80-something, but male whales often only live to 50, because their mother die before they do and their cousins, sisters, and adjacent grandmothers, don't give a shit about them after their moms die. Aw, poor Bubbas.
Apparently it is the grandmother orcas who instigated flipping boats for fun. And it was a grandmother orca who instigated the wearing a salmon as a hat for fun trend among them.
Damn if I'm not in love with orcas now! I think I need to form a gang of granny-aged people called The Orcas. We can all have crocheted salmon hats and run around on our three-wheeled bikes tipping over Teslas.
For a number of years now I have wanted to form a brigade of people who know how to sew by hand so that we could do this thing (that I had seen on Instagram) which is sit out in public and help people repair their clothes.
I guess that will be a retirement goal for me: have more meat space friends and go out to do public good and sow (sew?) mayhem.
