@matt_birchler I found him through Dithering when it started and started reading Stratechery. It was interesting but quickly saw he was for unfettered big tech power, didn’t meet a merger/monopoly he didn’t love, and thought the future of work meetings was in the metaverse. I probably lasted six months before I unsubscribed.
I never got the impression he considered himself apolitical though, his feelings on the EU especially have never been nuanced.
@matt My phone has many years ahead of it being handed down to family where it will be lightly used. They won’t want to pay $100 to replace the battery.
I don’t need even close to 80% of my battery most days and so capping it there to help the battery makes sense and doesn’t affect me negatively in any way. When I know I’m going to be using it a lot on a certain day I can up it to 100%. I would like a shortcut action to be able to quickly toggle between the two modes.
@matt Almost every electric car using the same/similar battery chemistry to your phone limits charging to 80% by default and try hard to encourage you to keep it there. I would presume that they would really prefer to not do that.
@caseyliss I use automations detecting playing, pause, on, and standby. This works with close to 100% reliability for me. The only time it doesn’t is when it gets itself into the off state or something else (after a power outage etc) and HA gets confused in various ways. So I have an automation every ten minutes to check if the Apple TV is not in a play, pause, or standby state and turn it on if so. This has fixed any of those weird issues I used to have.
@daringfireball You mean like this in California?

As others have said, it can be very easy to unintentionally go over the limit without realising it on urban streets. I’ve also turned on the warning system on my car.
@martinbuckler @caseyliss You can actually change the workout units independently in the watch app: Settings->Workout->Units of Measure
@johnvoorhees Yup, I bought it when it was a one-time fee and subscribed to it until the price increase last year. I get a good feature set for free but if they made a new plan that dropped all the enterprise/scheduling features and charged half the price I would definitely subscribe again.
@tvforecastapp
@tvforecastapp Heard it on the podcast today! Is there a Watch app in the plans? I use Trakt and would love to be able to simply mark episodes as watched through the watch. That would be the biggest value-add for me over the Trakt app itself.
@gruber Want to take a seat, settle down in the library and share your thoughts on this analysis of the DMA? So far you’ve given several little barbed comments on EU regulations but you haven’t really told us why you think they are bad for customers. https://ia.net/topics/unraveling-the-digital-markets-act
Unraveling the Digital Markets Act

To comprehend the DMA's relevance to us as an independent software company, we read and analyzed it from beginning to end.

@siracusa @njpozner I think what the “best” car is at a given price point is very subjective - more so than with a laptop etc. I fully expected to get an Ioniq 5 when I started (loved the looks and the reviews were great) but, unexpectedly, ended up with the ID.4. The Ioniq 5 definitely beats it in some areas, but overall I preferred the VW and found the main complaints with the infotainment system have been completely overblown. Go test drive them all!
